Scott Walker recall takes an unexpected turn.

The primaries were held yesterday. Walker beat a fake Republican, and Tom Barrett beat 3 real Democrats and one fake.

Numbers (May 8 recall primary election results):
Barrett: 390k (58%)
Falk: 229k (34%)
Vinehout: 27k (4%)
LaFollette: 19k (3%)
Huber (fake): 5k (1%)

Walker: 627k (97%)
Kohl-Riggs (fake): 20k (3%)

So, if all those who voted for Democrats and the fake Republican vote for Barrett, and all those who voted for Walker and the fake Democrat, then Barrett would be up 685k to 632k. I live in a Republican stronghold, and at 6pm, there was a line to vote, a bit to my surprise. I think the turnout was pretty good (1.3m), but lots more will surely vote in four weeks in the general. I don’t remember the exact number, but I think 900k signatures were deemed valid for the recall, so you have to figure there are 200k people that didn’t vote yesterday that would likely vote for Barrett. Anecdotally, I know a handful that did not (and didn’t sign the petition), but plan to vote for Barrett in the general.

That’s one way of looking at it. Another would be that even though Walker was essentially running uncontested, nearly as many people showed up to vote for him as showed up to vote in the semi-contested democratic nomination, and that only about one in six voted for the union-backed candidate.

Another way to look at it is people like myself (who knew Walker would win against the fake candidate) voted for Falk on the Democratic ticket because she would have been an easier candidate for Walker to beat, but will vote for Walker in the next election.

Breaking story:

I thought about casting a vote for the other Republican even though I’m a Democrat but decided my integrity was worth more. Too bad not everyone feels that way.

Scott Walker Using $100 Million Of Taxpayer Money To Fight Off Recall?

Boiled down: Walker is challenged by the fairly popular mayor of Milwaukee. Perhaps he could make a nice gesture to Milwaukee. OK, a bribe. But he has no money, remember? All these dreadful things he simply had to do, it was because Wisconsin is, like, totally broke! Mother Hubbard goes to the cupboard to bone her dog, but the cupboard is bare! Not even the miracle of tax cuts to businesses is helping, there is no money! There is no money!

But while rummaging through the couch looking for forgotten Cheetos, he finds…a hundred million dollars! And rushes to announce that he will use that money to stimulate the economy of Milwaukee, bless his heart! He’s not a steam-powered wine press for squeezing the life out of the working class, he’s a solar powered rainbow extruder!

Neutron density douchebag.

Actually $510,000. Largest known donor in Wisconsin political history. Of course, there may now be larger SuperPac donors. Who knows?

This isn’t really shocking, the strategy has been obvious. But nice to have a smoking gun.

Were you hiding under the bed in a motel room in Illinois when your integrity as a Democrat kicked in? Just saying.

It was the Motel 6 on highway 55, just outside of Ames, Iowa. Room 15. Give it a shot!

Tom Barrett popular? :dubious: You must not be from around here.

From this article: Walker unveils $100 million economic plan for Milwaukee’s poorest areas
He certainly had incredible foresight to start this over a year ago, perfectly timed to be unveiled during the recall election.

And it looks like the money does not come from the state budget after all.

Yes, I read the last line, the state will lose revenue due to the tax-exempt bonds.
That hardly matches the hyperbole of your post, however.

He says he has been working on this for over a year? He says? Well, that certainly settles that, I will not be in a position of questioning the integrity of such a paragon of candor and virtue.

Ah, so instead of getting the money from taxes, he’s instead getting it by going deeper into debt. Well, that’s certainly in line with modern conservative principles.

Good. I’m glad you have such an open mind.

I don’t think it’s revealing too much personal information so while I am from Wisconsin I am not a member of the state legislature so I wasn’t hiding under a bed anywhere. Not that it has anything to do with your attempts to sabotage the election process by trying to choose your opponent but the Senators that left the state to block the vote at least did it in the open. Unlike you who chooses the anonymity of a polling booth to cheat from.

Just saying.

You realize that denying quorum is something Lincoln did, right?

So, this was gonna be a surprise, then? I mean, I do see the two pages of very neat typing. Which is impressive, knowing that the State of Wisconsin has word processing software, and printers. But since you are so knowledgeable, perhaps you can point out to us the solid steps taken, the resources committed? For all we know, this is a memo somebody passed to the Gov’s office that was ignored and forgotten until it was expedient to remember it.

Outside of the Gov Walkers sterling reputation for straightforward candor and openness. Yes. Quite.

Yeah, and you know who ELSE denied quorum?

But did he do it three times before the Koch crew?

I don’t think a simple warrant will suffice, this one might be a matter for an ecclesiastical court.

How popular/unpopular is Barrett? Serious question.
