Scream Movie Series

Scream 7 was released yesterday. Without open spoiling it, I had a good time. Not my favorite, not the worst, not invested in the behind-the-scenes drama. It is so strange it’s been 30 years and I’ve liked every movie in the series to some extent, which is more than I can say for “better” movies series (looking at you, Star Wars, eg). I guess there’s another one underway, so that’s good. This was the first time I saw one in theaters. I always rented them on VHS or whatever as the technologies changed. It was a way different vibe and it probably made the movie better for me with people dressed up and cheering.

The first one is probably my favorite horror/slasher, even though I’m a tiny bit older than the characters.I think I’m younger than most of the actors.

I don’t know if this one is a GO SEE IT NOW great time, or WAIT FOR IT TO BE ON TV. I guess it’s how much one likes the series and going to the movies. (My favorite local theater shut down during covid so it’s really frustrating to go to the movies now. I live in a real high density area but there are so many cities without a theater).

I think my ranking would be 1, 3, then all the others kind of are about the same. I don’t love that they seem to have permanently upped the gore, but I like that it changes and adapts… even if I don’t like all the changes. RIP, Dewey ← Scream 5 change.

It’s a strange series. None of them are particularly good and when I saw the first one in the theater, I thought it was a lot more comedy than horror movie. I was surprised to learn later that people found it scary.

I’ve seen the first 6. I will give the first one credit just for being meta and funny at a time a movie like that felt fresh.

Every sequel has been…uh, just more of it. We lost Neve Campbell, then got Jenna Ortega. Now, we lost Jenna Ortega and got Campbell back.

I’ll see it at some point, not sure when.
