When I bought my house, I agreed that my wife could do all the decorating, my only stipulation was that the unfinished basement was mine to do with what I pleased. The basement is now near completion, and I’m looking to make the decor “goofy-ass-what-the-hell-were-you-thinking-obviously-male-toy-room”.
I’ve found a must have addition to this genre of decor. It’s only drawback is that it requires 4D and 2 AA batteries. As a father of a 2YO, I know that batteries can get darn expensive.
Would it be possible to go to RadioShack/online and get adapters that I can then soder to the contacts so I never need batteries? How do I figure out what type adapter I need? Is there a danger of fire/frying the WWA?
Any suggestions for decor would be greatly appreciated. I’ve begun a post in IMHO
Yes, you can hardwire it, assuming you can use a soldering iron pretty well. You will need one 6V DC adaptor (to replace the 4D) and one 3V DC adaptor (to replace the 2AA). The tricky part will be determining the current capacity needed - the AA batteries can be replaced with the smallest 3V adaptor you can find, but the 4D cells might need something that can source a few amps. Attaching the wires in the right spots on the battery holders will take a soldering iron and a steady hand, be careful not to heat the battery holder tabs up enough that they melt through the plastic.
If necessary, there are adaptors that are adjustable (voltage (if you can’t, for some reason find a 6V) and connectors (which you don’t care about)) and basically cut off the connector, strip the wires, run the wires into the battery compartment and you could probably just wrap them around the metal deelyflitches that touch the battery and tape them up. They’ll be connected and hidden and soldering won’t be necessary (unless one of the deelflitches is flush with the compartment wall).
It’s just a thought, but if you went the rechargeable battery route then you could use that baby all around the house (when the wife and child are away, of course!)! Or out back if you’re having a BBQ party!
That game may look interesting now, and not that it won’t maintain it’s fascination far into the future, but it might be prudent to run through at least two sets of D’s before deciding it is so fabulous that you want to keep it on enough to justify hardwiring it.
