Ah, ok. I still did not find anything on NOAA or weather sites with predicted stages. We have those here, perhaps I’m not looking in the right place.
Pressure flow. Just like when you put your thumb on the end of the hose pipe and squirt your brother. You may be interested to know (or not) that the design flow for highways is often the 2%-chance flood or less. It might not even have that much opening, if it’s old. The part of U.S. 51 through Holmes County here has some bridges which were built back in the '40’s.
Harmonious Discord, why isn’t this on the news, what’s happening in Columbia County? I am so sorry for you. You are in my thoughts, because I think the aftermath is going to be ugggggly (carp in the back yard - yeeeesh). I dated someone from Harmony Grove for a long time so I am familiar with the area.
My dad got five inches of rain yesterday and two inches BEFORE this last two hours of showers. My whiskey barrel still sitting in the driveway had a foot of water in it earlier this afternoon, before the latest onslaught.
Skeeters are gonna be BAD this year.
I love levdraken’s idea to redistribute, because while drought is bad, this ultra soaking is also. We are going to have farmers screwed out of their livelihood.
They’re ALREADY bad, and I’m getting it easy.
Hadn’t given much thought to the farmers before, but OMG this sucks. Like they don’t have enough difficulties.
Let’s all vote for a dreamland, the polar opposite of the sickening scenes where farmers are getting kicked off their land and left to shift for themselves because of some unpredicted mess, and just cover for 'em when these things happen.
I saw a map that had the whole area listed as no flooding. I have to guess there is nobody updating the thing on the weekend. The rains before Saturday were filling stuff, but no flooding.
By my Rain Gage:
Thurs - 2.75"
Sat - Overflowed at 5" a neighbor had 7"
Sun- 3"
Monday Morning - 1"
Add and we have about 14 inches.
I had two pickings of lettuce this year. I might have a few peas if the water doesn’t go higher, but it of course raised during the night. I’m really pissed off, because I’ve been forcing myself to do garden stuff for the last 6 weeks, while it made my swelling reaction worse. I had replaced half of the stuff with food crops this year. The potatoes started going under last night. There were some pea sized potatoes on them a couple weeks ago. I’ve got to get going.
There a lot of school closing today. They are currently still in school trying to make up all the snow days. Sauk county has asked all people to stay off the roads.
The Lake Delton and Mirror Lake dam. may fail today.
The neighbor decided to drive his truck into the flood and try to remove one of the junk items from the water. The converted trailer now ice shanty cobbled junk and truck are now stuck. The soil runs through your fingers if you scoop it up, so driving into the yard was not a bright idea.
He got the tuck out, after leaving the other thing where it was.
Looks like y’all are having a farily significant event. (I think you knew that already. ). I looked it up, and for your part of the state the 25-year 24-hour rainfall shows about 4 to 5 inches.
That’s horrible. I hate hate hate it when I build something up carefully then circumstances beyond my control destroy it.
I hope it doesn’t get much worse there, and that if it gets too bad y’all can get out safely.
Have they evacuated the areas downstream of those dams?
