I’m in IT, I would love an unbiased opinion. Although I have submitted my resume to numerous locations I’m not getting any callbacks. I have a feeling my resume must suck.
Any particular place you would like me to send my resume so you can take a look at it?
I talked to my manager tonight and let him know that I’m turning in my resignation tomorrow. At least I’m parting on good terms and won’t have a “termination for cause” on my record.
I need to thank twickster , she gave me some great suggestions that I am going to implement.
Thank you Khadaji I will send you the original resume and hopefully with two opinions I can change my resume enough that it might get a second look.
I thought I would have enough money to last while I looked for a job, but after going over my finances a second time, I realized I’m screwed if I don’t find work soon.
I spent the whole day today wringing my hands, worrying, thinking about the negative things (what I forgot to say at the interview, what I said, but could have said better, etc) - by lunchtime, I’d convinced myself I was out of the running.
At 3, I got a phone call, it was an agent regarding a different job, where I apparently got into a shortlist of 6 out of 50 or more applicants, but things are moving slowly, so there’s no interview planned just yet.
At 4, I got a phone call from the local council, saying they would like to take my application forward, asking for contact numbers for my referees - assuming these check out OK (and they should), I should get a formal job offer later in the week. Looks like the job is as good as mine!
Thanks - it’s come at exactly the right time for me - just in time to be on board for Christmas corporate bonding rituals, and I haven’t quite yet needed to dip into my redundancy compensation money.
The job itself is absolutely made to measure for me, as it basically involves me sticking my nose into absolutely everything to understand how it all works, then making sure it keeps working and looking for ways to make it work better. And the workplace is a short, easy train journey for me, so I may not even need to get a car again.
I formally left my job today. It wasn’t easy, but I wasn’t exactly crying, either. We parted friends, which is good. I’ve got two references from my manager and another agent, and I won’t get a derogatory one from the company.
This morning, as I waited for the managing director to arrange a time to meet with me, one of the admin staff gave me the number of a former co-worker of hers who had moved on to a different company. I called in the morning and spoke with the owner this afternoon and will follow up with him tomorrow to finish the conversation.
Still haven’t heard from either the bank or the credit union. I’m planning to call the recruiter at the bank tomorrow, as well, to nudge them a bit. I’ve also got a networking breakfast that’s offered by the local Chamber of Commerce. Since I’ve paid for the year, I may as well get something out of it.
I sent an email to my HR “rep” today asking for the necessary paperwork to depart on Nov 17 and start my severance package. Well, actually I said I wanted to leave on Friday the 14th, cause I didn’t want to come in on a Monday to be sent right out the door later in the day. She replied that she wants to meet me tomorrow.
I’ve already learned she has absolutely no power to change any of this, so this is going to be another of those head-patting sessions when she tries to keep me from taking the severance. I am getting so fucking tired of this.
We just got a campus-wide email from the college pres. telling us that they won’t be likely to hire anyone FT for 2009-10 due to the CA state budget cuts.
Not that they’re likely to interview me anyway.
The professor that interviewed me said all my references checked out, and now he’d like a copy of my transcript. Damn it, you couldn’t have asked for that at the start of this process, so that it was all done with? I have no fax machine, and won’t be able to fax the request form until later today, probably when the registrar’s office is closed. So they get it tomorrow…a Friday, and it takes 1-2 days to process them, so we’ll say Monday they send it, he gets it Tuesday (he’s on the same campus, so at least it won’t take 2-3 days to mail it.)
So that’s almost another week to wait for a response, which I think will still be “yes, you’re hired” but I am a bit worried about my transcript. I had a not-so-hot GPA…
Okay, I’ll be starting my first day at the new job on November 24. Bumped it back a week to give some more breathing room for moving, closing errands, and the like.
Being re-employed doesn’t put me in the clear, though. I was going to rent out my house and wait until better times to sell it, but every property management firm I could find in the Cleveland area has a packed portfolio, and none are taking on new clients. My only choice is to sell the house, at what will probably be a loss.
Some good news: the moving allowance I’m getting from my new employer is just $37 below the mover’s estimate I just got.
