It looks like I’m going to be in Japan for the entire week of the draft…which means I’ll be in the Tokyo office in meetings pretty much the entire time. There’s no way I will make the draft, so I’m going to have to bow out of this and all the other Yahoo leagues this year, I’m afraid. Apologies for the short notice.
If no one shows up, I don’t mind playing the team that gets autodrafted…
We have 2 drops, so I’m going to have to recruit 2 people at once to fill them, since you can’t run an uneven league. If we can’t recruit 2 good players, we’ll have to run it 10 handed this year.
Normally it’s not too hard to recruit, but since we only have a week before the draft most people are already committed to other leagues and it makes it tough. I’m sending out feelers. Worst case scenario we’ll run the league 10 handed.
So far I haven’t heard back on interest in the league, although I’m still looking. It’s hard to get anyone this late in the season. 10 handed doesn’t really break anything, aside from getting to the playoffs becomes easier since 40% of the league goes.

As I said before, it’d be cool if we could all get on voice chat during the draft. I know some of you won’t have microphones but you should all have speakers so you can at least listen to the conversation and chime in with typing. It should be interesting.
Get ventrilo - it’s a free download. Install it. It will either ask you to create a user name off the bat, or on the main screen you can click the -> next to the user name dropdown to create one.
Once that’s done, select your user name, and click the -> next to the servers box. Under that, enter
Hostname : vent3.gamespeak.com
Port 4303
Password is d*******s - as in, 1920s style d_______s. I don’t want to post the password openly in case some bot crawls over it. If you can’t figure out the password PM me.
Now click setup, check “push to talk hotkey” in the top left, and pick a key to activate when you want to talk in the hotkey tab on the left middle. Then when you hold down that key, you’ll transmit.
That’s pretty much it. It should work smoothly and be fun. Try to set it up today - connect to the server and make sure you connect. You’ll see Room 1, Room 2, and Room 3 along with your user name above them if you did it right.
In the setup page, click the monitor button. You should start seeing numbers scroll by - if the numbers go up when you speak, it’s set up correctly. If they stay near 0, something is wrong - your mic is muted, it isn’t configured correctly, something like that.
Anyway, get it working tomorrow, and if you need tech support send me a PM.
Invited boozahol squid but Darth sensitive may have made other plans because he expected to be booted. It looks like my pm may have missed him by 3 minutes. If they can both come we’ll have 12, otherwise 10. Away from internet for a while. Will update when I can. Draft will proceed on time either way.

League 18912 pass Cecil. Need to get done fast. Yahoo requires league to be set at least 1 hr before draft maybe 90 min. Both teams need to join by 5:45 eastern or I’ll have to lock it down at 10 to make sure it goes down.
Had to lock league. Can’t risk a cancelled draft. Boozahol can’t get on from work and chucks friend didn’t sign up. I’ll be back in 45-60 min.
Yeah, that’s the kind of hard decision that needs to be made, as we learned lo those many years ago, scrambling to find a mock draft we could all sign up for. Was that this league?

It’s too late to rejigger the draft even if everyone is around, so sorry to Boozahol and Darth for missing it. At least they’re in other SDMB leagues. It just wasn’t working out, and I’ve only had vrey sporatic internet access so it’s been hard to coordinate.

Yeah, that’s how we ended up with Chuck/Overly Sentimental as a member. We all tried to rush into an empty mock draft, and he ended up being part of it, taking it seriously, and then joining us. He’s been with us since. This year had interesting beginnings, between that and our original voice chat auction draft which was actually pretty fun. Which is part of the reason I’m trying to get voice chat going again but I worry that you’ll all be lazy bums that didn’t take 2 minutes to install some free software.
