Well, let’s say two people bid $70 on a player within a split second of each other and both are unwilling to go to $71 - that’s a tie. You can consider the first bid to be entered to be the original bid, and hence a later bid with the same amount isn’t a valid bid because it doesn’t increment the bid - but that might make things messy because then the tie winner comes down to who types/speaks the bid the quickest and/or with the least latency (and it’ll be hard to say who was first between a vocal and text bid).

I thought a rotating tie breaker would be easier all around for everyone, and fair.

I don’t expect the situation to come up that much, but I wanted to establish that beforehand.

I am a wee bit confused about all the waiver rules, but I think I’ll figure it out over the course of the season. If not, I’ll have an excellent excuse for coming in last.

Are we still starting 8pm on Wednesday the fifth?

I just signed up. It will be by first experience with a league of this type. If we have an odd number of people involved, I’ll be happy to volunteer to step out. I’m super saturated with FFLs this year and haven’t really put any thought into this league, so I won’t be to broken up if I miss it. See you all wednesday.

It’s pretty simple - essentially all players go on waivers from the start of their games until Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at midnight - this prevents people from having to sit around their computers to scoop up breakout players. You e-mail me a waiver claim for a player you want in that period, and if you have the highest waiver priority of those people who wanted him, he’s yours, and your waiver gets reset to last place. After midnight, free agency is open and you can sign anyone you want without worrying about waivers.

Here’s our situation, if I understand correctly.

We have 6 people ready to go for Wednesday night - Myself, Ellis Dee, EsotericEnigma, VarlosZ, Diomedes, and Least Original User Name Ever. LOUNE I’m not actually sure if he’ll be available Wednesday.

Of the rest of the people who’ve posted in this thread, MadTheSwine has withdrawn and Spiritus Mundi is available Tuesday after 9:30, but not Wednesday at all. I’m waiting on a reply to see if he’d be available next week if we pushed the draft back. Edit: He sent me a PM saying he’d still be up for it sometime after Wednesday, although I didn’t ask specifically when.

Kiros and Omniscient haven’t responded. Edit: Omni just responded in the same time I was writing this.

So, our options are to go tomorrow, starting late, with 7 (and possibly Kiros and Omni if they respond) - but I worry a 9:30 eastern starting time wouldn’t give us enough time to complete the draft before people started needing to go to bed.

Go Wednesday as planned with 6, and possibly more if the others respond/become available.

Reschedule for sometime like this weekend, and start scoring for week 2, giving us more time to get responses/confirmations/etc from people to attend the draft.

I personally was hoping for an 8 man league, but I’ll be okay with 6 if that’s how you guys want to go.

Basically, the waivers are intended to avoid a breakout player (maybe stepping in for an injured starter) being snapped up by the guy closest to the computer during the game.

Once a(n NFL) player starts his game, he can’t be signed as a free agent until Wednesday. If you want him, you email a waiver claim to the commissioner sometime before Tuesday night. If you win him, your waiver priority is bumped to last.

Or you could wait until Wednesday, preserving your waiver priority but hoping nobody else claimed him off waivers.

Well, it looks like we have 8 people interested now, but 7 if we draft Wednesday. If you guys wanted to bump the draft up to tomorrow night at 9:30 eastern, we could draft with 8, assuming everyone here is available at that time.

But I don’t want to keep people up late, or if if it’s avoidable break the draft into seperate days (since Mundi won’t be around on Wednesday to finish it up) - but if everyone had a few hours at 9:30 eastern tomorrow, we could do the draft then.

Sorry for the waddling, I’m just trying to find the place that works best for everyone.

If you wouldn’t mind - post when you’d be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and let’s say Friday and Saturday.

Fine, guys. Way to explain the waivers, all simple like, and ruin my excuses.

I’m up for either tonight or Wednesday. Thursday’s good, as well, but I’d have to bow out if it’s on the weekend. If we need an extra team, why not just have the Commish draft two, according to auction rules, and let whichever 8th person can’t make it to the draft get the less sexy one?

I’m self-employed (bordering on unemployed), so I can be there at pretty much any day and time.

If we can get eight solid, confirmed definites for tonight or tomorrow, then great. Othwerwise, I think we should give ourselves another week to get this together and start with Week 2. Like I said before, that’s really not a bad outcome.

I have no problem if this is what happens.

It would be a tricky conflict of interest thing going on for me. I could hypothetically use the other team to thwart other owners in the league by driving up prices, and I wouldn’t have an incentive to steal a player who I think will be valuable from my real team to the fake team. About the former, I wouldn’t deliberately try to do that, but about the latter - I would only bid on players that I’m not really interested in with the fake team. I could probably build a solid team while missing conflicts of interest, but since it’s just a filler team anyway stuffing it with free agents no one wanted seemed like the way to go.

If we end up drafting with 8, there will be no need.

This is good with me, I just hope we can find something acceptable to everyone.

It looks like Omni can’t make it Tuesday, Mundi can’t make it Wednesday - I didn’t ask about Thursday because there’s a game on and I thought people might want to watch it, but perhaps that’s an option. Diomedes can’t do the weekend (does that include all of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday?).

So in order to figure out when we can do this, I guess I’ll need a full availability for everyone going through next week to see when we’re all available. We may find out that we’ll have to exclude someone if there’s no day when we’re all free. I was hoping to do it this weekend, probably Saturday, because I figured that would give us the most free time for everyone.

I’m available pretty much every day except Sunday 1-8 pm and possibly Monday from 8-11. The new movie theater over here has a big DLP screen hooked up to an HDTV feed and they do Monday Night Football games on the 40 foot screens and they look surprisingly good - I was thinking of catching the Balitmore/Cinci game there. Everything else on my schedule is flexible.

BTW, if there’s still anyone interested in joining, feel free to post. List when you’d be available.

Sorry - looks like I will need to bow out of this. Just had a major work project landd on my desk. I’ll be too short on time for the next few weeks to invest in another league. Good luck to you all. I still think it’s a great idea.

Well, that reopens Wednesday as a day that no one has called off, but we’re looking at 7 people. Does anyone have a friend who might be interested and is available tomorrow?

The current situation as I understand it:

Mundi has withdrawn, leaving us a confirmed interest list of 7, with Kiros unresponsive.

Mundi withdrawing also opens up Wednesday night because he was the only one who said he couldn’t make it.

Varlos, EE, Dio, and Omni, and myself have specifically stated an availability of Wednesday. Ellis Dee I assume will be available because he’s been active in the thread and would’ve said if he wasn’t available.

LOUNE hasn’t been active in the thread lately, I sent him a PM to see if he’s available tomorrow.

So we have 6 people practically confirmed to be able to go tomorrow, with two unknowns - LOUNE and Kiros, who I’m hoping to hear from.

So we can go with at least 6, up to 8, tomorrow depending on who responds, or we can push it all back a week and hope we can fill out 8. However, at this stage, the weekend, the seemingly best time to do this, will leave Dio unavailable.

I have a mild preference for having 8 teams and skipping week one over having 6 drafting tomorrow. But it’s a very mild preference, whatever you guys want to do works for me. Any day during the week next week is fine with me if the weekend creates issues.

I also prefer 8. LOUNE replied to my PM and said he’d probably be available, so that gives us 7. Kiros is the only person who has so far expressed and interest and not said he can’t make it, but he hasn’t been on the boards lately and I have no idea if he still wants to do it.

Which might mean 7 people is the most we’ll ever have interested and available, and all 7 will be available tomorrow night.

If we wait a week, we have a chance that Kiros or some other 8th person becomes interested in the league, but we run the risk of not being able to find another day that all 7-8 of us are free.

If we go with 7, the best option I think will be creating a dummy/computer team with the best leftover players (I can do that on another yahoo account), because the number of teams in the league has to be even.

I’ll go with the consensus. What do you guys want to do?

Could people make 8pm tomorrow, or would we want to start later?

Okay - since everyone who has confirmed themselves to want to do this will be available tonight, let’s just do this tonight. If we could guarantee an 8th person, and a time we’d all be available next week, I’d go with that - but we can’t, so let’s do this.

Any objections?

An 8 PM EST start will give us plenty of time to complete the draft in one night.

If 7 show up, we’ll use a dummy team as discussed before. I’ll run the team on another yahoo account. I’ll only fill the starter slots up with the best yahoo-projected free agents. In the event that one of them gets injured or has a bye, I’ll sign the next-best projected free agent from that position, use him for the duration of the bye or injury, and then dump them back into free agency when the original starter is available.

If someone ends up missing the draft, we’ll have an even number at 6.

As far as positions go, with 8, I guess we’re going with QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, DE, K with 7 bench slots with $200 to work with and a $1 minimum bid/increment.

If we go with 6, we might want to increase the depth in the league to make it more interesting. I wouldn’t be opposed to QB QB RB RB WR WR WR TE TE DE DE K but that might be more than people want. Well we’ve got 4 hours to discuss it.

If anyone objects, and is planning and budgetting themselves for QB RB RB WR WR WR TE DE K we can just stick with that regardless of size.

I suggest you write out some budget guidelines for yourself - if you blow all your money early and don’t fill up all your slots you won’t be able to fill them up with free agents until week 2 - and additionally if we have an odd number of people the top few free agents will be on the dummy team.

If you use fantasy auction draft guides on website as far as value, keep in mind that they’re often the prices for 10 or 12 team leagues, and with different starting lineups, so the values in our league will be different.

If anyone has any objections about starting time, rules, whatever, please speak now. Otherwise I hope to see you tonight.

If anyone else is interested, join our yahoo league posted earlier in the thread and just show up.

Ok. Might I suggest that we spam our non-SDMB friends to get up to 8 or even 10 players, and to ensure that we’re not boned if one of the seven confirmed can’t make it (I’d wager on there being at least one no-show if I were a betting man . . . which I am).

I made a post in 2 other FF threads in the hopes of scoring us one last player. But 7 is fine if it ends up being that way. We’ll get to make fun of whoever the crappy computer team manages to beat.

Edit: To respond to Varlos’ post, yeah, if you have a non-SDMB friend who’s interested in this, feel free to grab him. Although if we have a no show and we have to draft with 6 - that’s doable.
