SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 14

OK. I don’t doubt this years WR draft will provide players akin to CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Lockett, Keenan Allen, Jalen Waddle, Michael Pittman, Chris Godwin, and DJ Moore (who are all WR2’s). I’d take that anyday. But I do think at least 2, more like 4 or 5, will definitely be WR1s at some point in their career.

Wouldn’t scoring (especially in a 1-off season) rankings and WR positional rankings different? Or at least I consider them different, not that I couldn’t be wrong.

Isn’t it time for the next pick?

Long overdue. He never responded to my PM about a trade back either.

Aren’t we skipping to the next person?

I mean, it was night time. We probably shouldn’t count the clock from midnight to 7:00 am or something.

But also it’s dale, who has been known to make 24+ hour picks. And I saw him post in the preseason thread shortly after he went on the clock.

He went on the clock at 8:12 pm Eastern last night. We could survive giving him 24 hours, though it is a little irritating. If you guys decide to skip him sooner I won’t object, but if I were forced to decide I suppose I would give him 24 hours.

But someone’s rank is directly related to how they’re expected to score in a season. Using last year’s stats makes the most sense.

Stalking dale, his last post was at 8:39 pm last night, a half hour after he went on the clock. He may not know he’s on the clock. (But really should.)

I sent another PM.

I think its a piece of the equation, but like the example no one would expect for Renfrow to be a top 12 WR year in and out. There are always going to be one-off season stat outliers.

That is how I intended it, yes. Depth charts are meaningless, and value in fantasy is separate from how a PR intern orders names on a spreadsheet or how a position coach rewards a player’s tenure or effort in practice.

That is… not what I am saying. And you bringing up Hunter Renfrow is why nobody really defines positional value in fantasy based on last year’s finish, or a single year’s finish. And by the way, Hunter Renfrow is a fucking awesome football player. But, if you were drafting today, would you take Hunter Renfrow as your first WR on your team? Would you consider yourself set at the position if you had Sidney Rice back in the day? What about Jeremy Maclin?

CeeDee Lamb is a WR2? How could you possibly think anyone in this draft is better than CeeDee Lamb? Nobody in this draft is as good as Lamb, or Moore, or Waddle.

When I’m evaluating a draft class, I want to see whether a player is both consistently ranked in the top 12 at their position preseason, and whether they finish in the top 12 at their position. Anyone can get injured and miss a season, and then be limited the next season. Anyone can get lucky on a bad team and rack up garbage stats and finish top 12 a single year. Fantasy value is a blend of perceived value and actual results. That’s why your offer of a wager would be a terrible bet, and why I’m sure you were so quick to offer it.

I’m pretty confident no one in this class will be both a preseason top 12 WR, and a top 12 WR overall, twice in the next 4 years

I agree with you, I’m pretty uncomfortable with the idea of skipping someone because they went on the clock late at night and didn’t wake up early enough to catch the back end of their 12 hour window. I think pausing the timer from 12a-8a is fair.

I also think we should be a lot more lenient on the 1st round picks, and a lot more strict on the timer in later rounds.

Oh shit I see him, nice.

Hiya!! I’ll pick during my lunch break which should be in the next two hours, sorry for the delay.

Yay!!

Deleted my long post saying we need to give more time.

I am honestly more confused than ever. Of course you’re not going to seed the WR1/WR2/WR3 tiers with 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36 from last year. But it is a good starting point.

And that’s why I brought up Renfrow. He finished in the WR1 group last year (so he was a WR1 in 2021), but no one would have guessed that’s how he would finish during the preseason and (probably) no one thinks he’ll repeat in 2022. So he’s not really a WR1 for the 2022 preseason.

I think we’re saying basically the same thing, just in different ways.

List of top 12 WRs this year who don’t meet your criteria: Cooper Kupp. Davante Adams. Stefon Diggs. Diontae Johnson. Hunter Renfrow. Mike Williams. We’re still waiting on Deebo and Chase to get a second top 12 finish.

I’d be happy to take any of those guys off your hands if you like. You can be an outstanding fantasy WR and not meet those criteria of yours.

Still, to make things interesting, Why don’t you and I bet a second round pick in 2027. If no WRs in this draft class finish with two top 12 years in the next 4 years, you win. If even one does, I win.

It’s the kind of bet I’ll likely completely forget about, but who knows.

Davante Adams has not been a preseason top 12 WR twice? He definitely finished top 12 twice in the first 4 years. Did you actually look those up, or are you guessing and hoping I’ll do the work? Hunter Renfrow and Mike Williams definitely don’t meet my criteria because nobody considers them top 12 WRs right now, especially in dynasty. Doubtful for redraft. Your including them is… suspicious. I’ll pass on your bet

You can look up Davante Adams stats from his first 4 years.

His best finish was #10 WR in 2016. He was WR #14 in 2017.

And yes, I looked them up. I tend to like to have stats and stuff to back up the stuff I spout off about. Weird, right? You might try it sometime.
