SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Two

He sucks. I’m tired of carrying a worthless player on the roster just because I recognize his name. I would take any of those guys you list over Jones any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I think every word of this is a fantasy. Starter for most teams? Not likely. And 900 yards in a season is a pipe dream. He doesn’t have 900 yards in 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined, though he will if he maintains the 650 average he’s on pace for this year.

How much productivity do you think the 35 year old gimpy Donald Driver has left, and where do you think that’s going to go?

James Jones’ stats previously have not been good because he’s been behind such solid starters, plus a great receiving TE. He’s clearly talented and his lack of production is all about situation and not talent. How in the world do you think any of those guys will be more productive than him?

Driver is pretty much at the top of the second tier of WRs and he’s been so consistent for so long that I very much doubt that’ll just evaporate in the span of a few weeks. He’s still got all of this year left and probably next year too.

After that, who knows.

I think at best Jones can be propped up by Rodgers to be a serviceable slot guy. Against top corners he’s going to be outmatched, so you really don’t want him as a starter. On a team without a top 10 QB he’d be overmatched by the nickel back.

I think when Driver retires they’ll draft a successor or bring in a free agent. No way to they think Jones is the heir apparent.

It’s Green Bay. It’s Ted Thompson. Dollars to donuts Jones or Jordy Nelson will be starting next year if Driver isn’t. Nelson’s had a case of the dropsies stretching back to last season.

The problem with Jones, in addition to being more of a possession receiver, is that they also have Jordy Nelson. Nelson has struggled this year, but when Driver retires, it will be Jennings, Nelson and Jones and I don’t think you’ll know who the ball will go to consistently. Instead of someone taking over Drivers 70 for 1000 yards, you’ll have two guys getting 40 and 500. And if Finley is anything like he was/can be, the TDs won’t be there too. If the Pack cut ties with Nelson, though Jones might be worth a look.

Everyone likes playing head to head because it’s more interesting from week to week, but it’s obviously not as fair as just a straight points competition. But it’s easy to see how the league would shake out if we were indeed playing a straight points league, so every once in a while I like to sort the rankings by score to see how we’d turn out in that case. Ellis Dee put that function into his program so I don’t have to do it manually, thanks.

That’s due entirely to my having both Dez Bryant (30.12 points) and Kenny Britt (44.0) on my bench. Larry Fitzgerald was definitely starting, leaving me with (realistically) these 6 players to fill three slots (WR, W/T, and W/R):

Dez Bryant (NYG)
Kenny Britt (Phi)
Michael Crabtree (@Car)
Mike Williams-TB (StL)
Danny Woodhead (@SD)
Marion Barber (NYG)

I went with Crabtree, Williams, and Woodhead (5.1, 9.7, 6.7). Oops. But I think my choices were reasonable at the time. They’re all actually pretty close, but Bryant and Britt were up against good passing defenses. Woodhead is a questionable choice, but I felt like he was the guy (perhaps ironically) with the lowest variance, someone I could count on for 6-10 points.

Well, good job there.

Nobody started Britt in any of my leagues so I certainly can’t blame you.

Oh, and I spent $11 on Nate Kaeding. Question: did anyone else bother to bid on him? My thinking was that I’ve so far just had a floating Kicker situation, which is fine, but with a 25 man roster it would be better, all else being equal, to have a guy who’s (ostensibly) reliably above replacement level. He’s been unproductive this year with SD’s struggles, but he was 1st last year, and the Chargers figure to have an above average offense for the long haul, plus a favorable winter kicking situation at home.

Still, I’m now almost certain that $11 was a silly overbid. $6 would almost certainly have been safe. I bid $14 at first, truthfully, but decided that was a bit much…

$1 would have been too much.

I tried to pick him up and start him in my money league, but a guy with waiver priority picked him up and didn’t start him.

My two wideout and one W/R spots would have been Roddy White, Marques Colston and Kenny Britt. ~600 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Anything up to $3 or so would’ve been fine, I think. I put a $6 bid in on a top 5-1 kicker who was dropped for his bye week in the big league. Although that’s unique in that there are probably 25 kickers held on rosters, so it’s actually pretty scarce.

I’m carrying two kickers in this league, too (both were among the top 5 in scoring last season, so it paid off).

Except you missed out on rostering a real player with potential like oh, Arian Foster.

Well, I wouldn’t say that. Pretty sure I lead the league in bench scoring right now. The problem is that my tight ends kept getting injured last year, which really effed up my depth this year.

Not sure why I thought Kitna would be better today than Garrard.

Well, if it was a yardage-only league…
