BTW, I have no objection to all the Spurs chat. The thread would probably sink like a stone without it and it’s no harm to have a one stop shop for all things football.
We really don’t want to lose, so we can’t play a seriously weakened team. as we both seem to agree.
I like the Idea of giving Lars a run out (according to Pat Jennings at the Q and A he’s a real talent - and pat should know after all). It could be an opportunity to get Birch some 1st team squad time too.
I’d go:
Hirschfield
Carr© ----Richards -------Gardener--------Tano
Dalmat------Ricketts-----Leadley--------Konchesky (then ziege)
Keane
Postigia
Subs:
Birch
Doherty
Ziege
Blondell
Zamora
Ziege to come in for Konchesky if we need goals (and he needs the run out)
I am looking forward to tonight I always relish the games against the spanners. Always a good derby, and they provide a bit more atmosphere than the arse (and a lot of my pals are spammers).
It’s nearly time to get down the pub!
Why “Tano”?
I’m also fine with Spurs chat. Let’s face it, the Oldham chat would last long.
Hurry up Harry!
Tarrico’s known as Tano - no idea why he just is (in real life as well as in football terms)
There is a fairly major riot going on in the Tottenham high rd right now - the Bank (a pub) has been smashed up as has the seven sisters. Inevitable really I suppose.
Owl
(obviously still at work behind a keyboard as befits a man of his age and circumferance)
I don’t know if spurs stuff is supposed to go in here anymore, so apols if it’s in the wrong place.
Last nights game was a good gritty derby cup tie that we did deserve to win. Positives to take away were the performances of Mabizela (who is going up in my estimation fast - and MUST start the next game), Blondell looked classy and King didn’t look as foggy as he sometimes does.
There were 80 arrests and much trubble outside the ground - The OB appeared to have dropped the ball this time (although I have my own suspicions as to why this may be).
Les Ferdinand - good player. Rio Ferdinand - Very good player. Anton Ferdinand - feckin useless player. So much for genetics.
Man City next - is that poor deluded fool Spogga still about? That should be an entertaining game.
Well I never. Lucas Neill sent off against us again. Still, at least he has shown he can make an exit without breaking legs.
Always nice to put one over on Souness, the man who bought Mark Wright, David Speedie, Nigel Clough and Neil Ruddock when he took charge of arguably the best club in the world at the time.
And Sprus want this non-entity?
And owl, keep the Spurs guff here by all means! I admire your Crooksian enthusiasm.
Neil Ruddock shudders
I don’t think Spurs want Souness, paper talk.
Not far out on team selection last night. In retrospect, resting Richards makes perfect sense (3 games in 6 days). Not resting Keller shows Pleat’s natural caution – incidently a quality I admire in him because it’s tempered with a desire to bring players on as well. He’s a shrewy, no question. Very pleased he took a chance and rested both Sharon and Poyet. Unfortunately, at least one – and probably both - is bound to appear again on Saturday.
Thing is with Pleat (for me), I can understand everything he’s trying to do with the squad. And that’s nice.
Very pleased for Bobby Zamora. I have a feeling that if Postiga does bed down – and grow up a little – it’ll take a season, at least.
As for OJ Mabizel, always fancied him a lot. Even had a momentary flash back to Graham Roberts when the goal at Leicester went in. Mind you, I had the same about Dalmat and Waddle a week or so back . . . I think I’m getting ahead of myself a little . . . .
Nice, though. Another healthy gate receipt vs. Man City. I hope to fook Kanoute’s back for that one.
btw, I was impressed with the spirit and commitment of Liverpool last night. Kewell looks great in that free role and with Hamann back, theu look tighter going into a dodgy pre-Christmas run-in.
I wish Spurs had got Barry Furgeson, though. Very tasty geezer, great engine, great timing of his runs, huge in midfield. Hey ho . . .
Postigia looked lively. He was doing everything right in terms of postioning etc. He came quite close. I haven’t consigned him to the Rebrov file just yet.
I was talking to a pal about this and he said that he thought Spurs had the worst record/Luck with foreign players of anyone.
Positives: Ginola, Klinnsman, Villa, Ardilles.
Unluckies: Ziege, Korsten
Neagtives: too many to mention.
How does this compare with other clubs?
Funnily enough I was taking a stroll down memory lane last night to Notts. Forest vs. Spurs, first game of the season and an away game in . . . . 1979, maybe ?
Lovely day out by the Trent, very warm welcome from the locals and the debut of the confetti-style welcome . . . oh, and Ossie played as well.
Them were the days . . .
I dunno, if we take Rebrov out of the scenario, it doesn’t look (financially speaking) that bad . . does it ?
Unfortunately our best “foreigner” is injured at the moment. Lee Trundle has been brilliant for us this season.
V
foreign crap (from memory):
Moussa Saib, tramazani, berti, dominguez, rebrov (the little fucker), baardsen, claesen, metgod, iversen, neilsen, leonardsen, popescu, dumitrescu, rosenthal, VEGA!!!, Toda. bunjejevich, acimov, qu bo,
And I fogot Erik the Viking for the succeses list.
No more low rent scandwegians or two bob balkans!
Okay, you win :D. Just don’t mention V**A again.
I don’t think I can fully accept your latter names as they were under the reign of Glenn; a man who can undermine potential faster than IDS
this just in: the FA on the filth:
Arsenal - £175,000 fine and warned as to their future conduct.
Martin Keown - Three-match suspension and £20,000 fine.
Lauren - Four-match suspension and £40,000 fine.
Ray Parlour - One-match suspension and £10,000 fine.
Ashley Cole - Fined £10,000.
Patrick Vieira - One-match suspension and £20,000.
About right. Will they be able to stagger the bans?
No, and they start just after we play them (on the 17th, I believe).
Good foreigners: Gunnar Halle, Ryszard Kowenicki, Les Pogliacomi
Open to debate: Toddy Orlygsson, Doug Hodgson, Julien Baudet
Unlucky: Tore Pedersen, Chris Killen
Crap: Carlo Corazzin
Missed out on: Sami Hyypia (was on trial, refused contract)
The punishment seems about right. I think it would be harsh for the induvidual incidents but for a high profile club and with som many players charged it was OK.
The bans start on november 17. unless Wenger apeals, which he may do to stop the bans from starting at the same time.
If the bans start the 17. the missed games would be these.:
Sat 22 A BIRMINGHAM
Sun 30 H FULHAM
December
Sat 6 A LEICESTER
Sun 14 H BLACKBURN
I think a league cup game is somewhere inbetween.
The bans shouldn’t be to much trouble, Vieira is injured (most likely), Toure is prefered ahead of Keown and Parlour can be replaced by Edu (who I think is better). Lauren might be more difficult they might call Voltz back from Fulham or they could use Parlour for 3 games. Unless more players are injured it shouldn’t make much difference for Arsenal.
On the good foreigner/bad foreigner thing, off the top of my head, for Sheffield Wednesday:
Good: Niclas Alexanderssen, the magnificent Roly Nilsson… err… Emerson Thome, I guess. Oh, John Harkes too. Dan Petrescu, but he buggered off to Chelsea first chance he got, the tosser.
open to debate: Beni Carbone - brilliant player, too hot to handle off-field for Danny Wilson, huge blow to morale.
Paolo Di Canio - Haven’t seen a more talented player. Do I have to say why this is open to debate?
Gerald Sibon - Extremely talented, extremely lazy. Caused huge debates like no other player when he was playing for us, back when we were in the first div (oh, it hurts to type that).
Petter Rudi - Talentless donkey, says I. Nobody I’ve met has debated this, but I guess he played quite a lot, there must be some Rudi fans out there.
Bad/not used well: Wim Jonk (too good for his crap teammates), Degryse (talented, couldn’t settle to the pace of the league, Gilles De Bilde (wanker), Klas Ingesson, that Macedonian(?) defender whose name I can’t recall, Patrick Blondeau… That can’t be it. I think I’m suppressing some horrible memories here.
I think Tottenham win this game. Nobody can match that kind of volume of crap. It’s balanced out well by the few gems though.
