Sorry, I thought from a roleplaying perspective that I only had a second to pass on info and react to the man with the shotgun, heh
Well… yes, I suppose you did. This is just one of those things we have to deal with in this type of game. No worries.
Except, of course, you now have to worry about getting shot!
Seeing his chance, Lou attempts to trap the spirit in the lounge chair as it heads toward the disassembled TV.5 brownie points + MOVES = 18. And a ghost.
**Please continue to message only the person who has information. It is correct and our confusion at the moment was probably quite realistic. **
Kris responds to the man holding the shotgun. “OK, listen, if you want to know the truth, we are called Ghostbusters and there is a ghost in this apartment building, perhaps even in your apartment right now. May we please come in and help get rid of it?”
Kris rolled 12 for his smooth talking ability and also rolled a ghost. Uh oh.
Oh boy! Two ghosts already… tonight’s update is gonna be fun! :::huge Evil grin!:::
What are the rest of y’all gonna do? Whatever it is, roll dice and get ghosts! Mwahahahahaaa!
“Please sir, we mean no harm, we are just trying to help” Brian says as he prepares to duck the rifle shot"
2 brownie point rolls, Moves roll 17, no ghost, (Sorry Phnord! :D)
Hehehehehe…
Chapter 4: Danger Zone!
[SIZE=“3”]June 23, 1986
8:05 pm[/SIZE]
Kristopher calls out through the steel door at the crazed figure within: “OK, listen, if you want to know the truth…”
“I’ve seen more truth than you could ever conceive of!” screams Dr. Panama (yes, there’s no mystery, this skinny white guy in glasses is the ‘good doctor.’ “And the number one truth in this country is a man’s home is his castle!” he bellows, firing the shotgun into the hall!
I said it was gonna get dangerous, didn’t I? I mean, I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew, didn’t you? Oh, it’s just a harmless little ghost isn’t it? We won’t be in any real danger!
Brian rolled a 17, no ghost, and used 2 brownie points to get it that high. He will have to face off against Dr. Panama’s MOVES roll to avoid being hit. I am about to make that roll now:
Dr. Panama rolled an 8, no ghost.Brian dives out of the way, leaping over the handrail into the stairway, landing nimbly on his feet on the landing below!
Brian safely avoids taking any damage from the shotgun blast.
Kristopher made an attempt to talk, and although his roll was fairly good, it wasn’t enough to stop the Doctor from firing his weapon. He also rolled a ghost, leaving himself flat-footed to take the full damage from the weapon… or at least, as much damage as a movie hero ever takes, namely:Kristopher is caught in the open, unprepared and mid-sentence. His upper arm is slightly bruised by the force of the shotgun blast, and he is thrown back against the far wall.
Kristopher takes 3 Brownie Points in damage!
Elizabeth’s last post was a few days ago. I believe she may be in the process of moving, and might not have full internet access, so we’ll give her a bit of a break here. I’ll roll for her to dodge, and if she does, she’ll stay out of the fight until her player returns.
I rolled a 9!Elizabeth quickly follows Don down the stairwell, only she does it the regular way, with the whole boring feet-on-the-stairs thing and all. Yawn!
Liz safely avoids taking any damage from the shotgun blast.
Dr. Panama reloads his shotgun and prepares to fire again.
Meanwhile…
Louis rolled a 13, with a ghost, for his MOVES attempt. He should have spent his Brownie Points by rolling them BEFORE he rolled his other dice, but I’ll let his choice stand: Each of those five dice that could have been something else came up 1s. His end result is 18, which is enough to hit the ghost… but the ghost die means something bad will happen!Quickly taking aim, Louis blasts the ghost with his Proton Pack… a direct hit!
The ghost screams in pain, and turns to look at its tormentor. An expression of pure hatred enters the phantasm’s eyes, as it takes in every detail of the being who has thus fired upon it in such a manner! Louis gets the unmistakable impression that he’s just made himself a powerful enemy!
Louis’ proton stream holds the ghost in place for a moment, draining it of Ectoplasmic energy as he fires… but then his Proton Pack overheats, and he can no longer maintain the stream.
The ghost escapes the proton stream as its (the stream’s) power diminishes. (The ghost’s power has also diminished by one.) It suddenly leaps up out of its floating etheric Lay-Z-Boy Recliner, spilling ectoplasmic potato chips onto the floor, where they blink out of existence in tiny puffs of static like snowflakes onto a hot cast-iron frying pan.
The ghost lurches forward towards Louis…
This is just here to increase suspense. Worked, didn’t it? And passes harmlessly through his body, diving headfirst into the working black-and-white television set behind him and disappearing.
Aside from a slightly queasy feeling, Louis seems to be completely unharmed by this. He knows, however, that this ghost is not going to let him go that easily!
Don sticks his head out into the hallway, and looks up.
“Did you hear something?” he asks Louis.
The time is now 8:06 pm.
The first commercial break is over, and “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” begins in earnest. This is a rerun of the episode where Mrs. King almost causes Scarecrow to botch the job, but then she solves the case for him and everyone lives happily ever after… for one week.
Your move, ladies and gentlemen!
Yes it did, and my name isn’t Don!
Brian, with Liz’s help, pulls Kris out of gunshot range and down the stairs.
“He’s just a crazy old coot, lets get out of here”
Nodding at Don, Lou heads toward the others in the stairwell. Safety in numbers should the spirit return.
That’s just me being unclear on how those things work. Next time I’ll be sure to spend the points first AND roll them.
Oops! Obviously, Brian’s name isn’t Don, it’s Brian! He’s a man named Brian! Not a girl named Brian! A man called Brian! A man they called Brian! His name was Brian!
My mistake.
Kris clutches his arm.
“Coot he is, but we still need to get in there.” Assuming they get back to Don, he continues, “Don, do you have any way of getting in that apartment? I mean, how can you be the super of this building and have an apartment you can not enter? What if he dies in there? Now that he has shot me, do you think we should take action to remove him?”
I knew that was going to be Life of Brian when I saw that at work. heh.
Brian adds: “Don, can you go talk to him? I don’t think he’ll shoot the Super… or would he?”
"In any case, we need to get Kris some medical attention for that shot. Maybe we can do some research tomorrow on who this ghost is and what it wants before heading back here.
The way I see it, we can either get it to move on or zap it. We zapped the first one. I’d like to see if we can do something else with this one.
Besides, Louis act of bravery no doubt made it mad, so we need to be prepared next time."
Kris shrugs off the doctor idea. “Nah, I’m fine. It’s just a flesh wound. Anyway, I say we stay here and figure this out. Don, please answer all our questions.”
The crew meet up on the third floor landing outside Mrs. Pogoni’s apartment, and discuss their options.
I’ll try. Let’s see…
“Nope. I got a key for the other apartments, but never did get one for Doctor Panama’s place. Never needed it; he hasn’t once asked for any kind of repairs or anything.”
“Hey, it’s just a job. They never gave me one, I never thought to ask for it. He doesn’t bother anybody, so I don’t bother him.”
“Hmm… ya got a point. I guess I’d have to call the cops or the fire department or something!”
“Wow, dude, you got shot? I’m pretty sure that’s against the rules… I’ll try to contact the owners, I guess, see what they say. If you want to press charges in the meanwhile, go right ahead and call the cops.”
“I don’t know what he’s likely to do! I guess if you want, I can try to see if he’ll talk to me. Anybody got a white flag?” [del]Don[/del] [del]Brian[/del] Don doesn’t seem very eager to carry out this plan.
Next?
“Based on all of your knowledge of paranormal phenomenon, what do you all suggest we do at this point?” says Kris, quite unsure of what to do himself.
“Don, do you know why Dr. Panama distrusts the police so much? He pretty much went apeshit when we mentioned the police.”
Don seems very hesitant to say what little he knows about Doctor Panama that might be considered a secret. It’s possible you can force him to talk, but you may lose his voluntary cooperation if you do so.
Put the pieces together. Make a guess. Be wrong and I get to make funny things happen. Be right and… well, I’ll still make funny things happen but they won’t be as random! q;}
Brian, now’s a good time for a rundown of what’s known about Dr. Panama, if you’re up for it.
If not, I’ll give y’all my version of events tonight at midnight… actually, after midnight because I’ve got my I-get-to-be-a-player D&D game tonight and it’s likely it’ll run late.
Elizabeth, you still with us?
To Kris:
Well,if you think there’s more information to be found here,by all means. Maybe the owners know something? Maybe there was a death involving a TV that someone might remember.
I suspect we can find more at places like the Hall of Records or the local paper though.
Maybe Louis, Liz and I can investigate those places while you chat wth the owners? We can find pay phones to keep in touch.
Brian paces back and forth, offering a summary of the current situation, whether the other want it or not!
We know very little about Dr Panama. He seems to be a paranoid kook. He may or may not have any experience with the ghost himself, but I don’t see how it can be more than what we have learned already.
He bears a remblance to the ghost that I am sure is a coincidence since he is very much alive.
The ghost, on the other hand, has shown some intersting qualities. It appears sitting on a sofa, watching TV. Looking for its favourite show? It insists on keeping all TVs running, maybe so he doesn’t miss anything.
I think the TV, specifically what is playing on CBS, is the key. He obviously hasn’t found it, since he keeps looking. It could be that the program is no longer on the air. That puts his living dates between the 1940’s and the 1970’s.
Anyone up for some research?
Lou starts divesting himself of his equipment, passing them off to anyone except Don. “Dat gah up dere ain’ seen me yet an ah got an ahdear.”
“Keep dem packs handy case dat spook come back.”
Lou cautiously makes his way upstairs, hoping to use his knowledge of chemistry to detect if the Doctor is up to anything unusual and possibly illegal. 18, no ghost
Sorry guys! I was in the middle of moving. Still don’t have internet at my place until Friday. Posting this through my phone now. Won’t be able to roll anything until then. I can still react and post though. I’ll start back up tomorrow. Just assume Liz is being dutiful and safe at the moment.
