SDMB liberals...who do you want in the next Presidential election?

Nitpick: These are their interpretation of biblical values. There are plenty of Christians who don’t agree with their interpretation.

Who ever said “taxpayers should pay for gay marriages”? What does that even mean? How does gay marriage cost the government anything?

Well, if that’s the problem, we have a solution.

Congress passes a law legalizing gay marriage throughout the country. But we exempt gay marriages from all federal programs that provide money for marriage ceremonies.

If those people want to get married, let them pay for their own caterer.

This argument is so ridiculous.

I find war immoral, Curtis. Should I have the option not to have my tax dollars go to it?

Conservatives always trot out the tired old saw that they’re not actually opposed to X, but simply believe the government shouldn’t pay for X. Why not just be honest and say you’re against X? One’s bigotry is not magically washed away because cost is interjected into the equation.

I apologize to the OP for contributing to this hijack.

To coin a term, Ditto.

Agreed. But the Christian *Right *has, in some way or form, forced their interpretation of those social values on the rest of us over the past 25 years or so.

That’s not why the argument’s ridiculous (though you’re right on your point). The argument’s ridiculous because taxpayers don’t pay for weddings, period! (Well, they pay for their own weddings, but not other people’s, and not through taxation.)

Well, yeah, that too.

Exactly. Saying you’re against gay marriage because you don’t think your taxes should have to pay for it is like saying you’re against gay marriage because it kills dolphins.

I’ll admit that sometimes when I hear the ridiculous strawmen that some conservatives throw out there, I feel like just agreeing with whatever silly thing they’re saying.

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because I think our taxes are too low.”

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because when he smiles I feel all warm inside.”

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because I feel guilty for being white.”

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because I want more terrorism.”

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because I think it’s time this country abolished private property.”

“I’m voting for Obama in 2012. Because it’s what Satan would want.”

We live in a secular society. It is particularly un-American for you to advocate other people being forced to live by your particular religious delusions.

I think he’s suggesting that by allowing same sex couples the normal tax benefits of marriage, prejudiced-assholes are forced to pay for it.

This is just another in a long line of outright evil nonsense from Qin’s side of the aisle.

What’s the protocol for demanding an active poster come back and defend his statement? I would like to know what our young friend has to say to the response to his comments.

Annanias and wife died because they lied to the Holy Spirit.

“Thou shalt not steal”

In this country of representative government, explain just who Caesar is.

No, he was asking where it said you weren’t allowed to tax. We all know theft isn’t allowed.

Taxes aren’t theft. You need to spend some time learning about how the country works before asserting such nonsense.

The government, of course.

Everything the Repubs are doing now is an attempt to beat Obama. The debt crisis game they are playing is to make him look bad . I suspect most people are too intelligent to fall for their crap and getting tired of the game.
I don’t see how Obama can lose to any of the 7 dwarves the Repubs are offering.

I hate to say it, but it could happen. I for one do not trust the electorate at large to consistently make the best decisions for the good of the nation.
