SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

You’re right, and my apologies. My long-winded ramble belonged here. I just felt obliged to identify what this food item was, and then got carried away!

It’s cool. We’re good. I’m often forgetful!

I’m the one that usually scolds those who prematurely explain their photos, and I can very easily see myself forgetting my own rule and carrying on about a future masterpiece of mine.

In other words, no apology necessary.

mmm

I’m hungry. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Me too

I could eat…

I ate.

So did I, but I think it’s time for second breakfast.

Ah, those time zones! What a mess! For me merienda is next.

Well, Europe is more advanced you know… when we are just starting second breakfast you are already preparing for merienda

Yeah, well, horologically advanced… By that measure, Russia is one of the most advancedest countries in the world.

Hid details as violated the intent of the thread.

I think the stories enhance the photos.

My Tim Tam photo only has meaning in context …few of you would ever have heard of Tim Tams…very popular in Australia.

I’m a Canadian by birth and now happily settled in tropical Australia.

The photo in question was taken in the depths of covid…I was on a solo ride to Pickle Lake …into indigenous Canadian territory…I even had to go through a native check point.

There was no place to eat, not even public picnic tables were around…I noticed a small grocer open …literally the only thing and imagine my laughter seeing the Tim Tams as displaced as I was.

Partner and I had to part, half way through our 5 week trip in Chile, her home to Australia and me to Canada…no choice in the matter…I would not see her for 18 months and that’s another tale.

Tim Tams are hard to find anywhere in Canada and were so unexpected at the edge of civilization in Northern Ontario in a tiny outpost deserted by people of any sort other than the clerk in the store. The isolated communities in the bush were doing their best to avoid importing the disease….it was spooky. A very few eateries even along major highways further south and you could not sit inside any of them…take out only, well spaced from the next person and my table was the top case of the motorcycle. The whole trip had an apocalyptic feel to it. Seeing those lonely displaced Tim Tams far from home resonated big time….and yes they ARE delicious.

Tim Tams – Australian Snacks

@MacDoc this is a warning for being a jerk.

Do not participate in the Photo Competition if you will not respect the rules others abide by. Clearly, you willfully did so.

Huh? @What_Exit

@macdoc Seeing empty shelves with just a couple bars of your favorite candy must’ve been a jolt. Never had one myself.

I could use an explanation of this warning.

The place to do so is not in thread.

But MacDoc and others have been asked that the submitted photos in the competition not be discussed until after the voting has concluded each month. Folks sometimes forget this rule and I give them a gentle reminder; I have no problem with that. MacDoc, however, as much as stated that they do not like the rule and went on to discuss their entry in detail, defying the rule (and the spirit) of the contest.

I take this opening line as willfully ignore the rules of the contest:

Additionally, we don’t moderate for a single post and MacDoc is struggling to follow our rules and runs afoul of them often. After enough problematic posts, warnings begin.

Moderating:

Note: from the Terms of Service:

Any post by a mod acting in an official capacity will be indicated as such. Questions, comments, and complaints about moderation should be posted in the About This Message Board forum. Moderators will do their best to explain the reasoning behind their actions.

So no more questions about this warning in this thread.

I couldn’t decide to do a before or after.

I like the after effects. No crumb shall be left behind.

Hunh …thought this was a “rolling discussion”…..
