I didn’t vote for myself as I think it’s bad form, but would I be allowed to in theory?
In theory you can, but I beleive the original rules stated that we were on our scouts honor to not do so. So yes, it’s bad form and is highly discouraged, but still possible to do so. Unless of course they modified the poll to not allow this, but I doubt it.

There’s no technical way to prevent it as far as I know.
You can get the same result by having the wife, kids and in-laws vote for you. No need to vote for yourself.
If the wife, kids and in-laws joint the Board for that reason wouldn’t it count as sockpuppeting?
Not only that, my whole family does not know I even exist here. And that’s the way I want it.
In the early days of the internet I entered an online tattoo contest run by a tattoo shop. The shop set up the contest to get page views, so I thought I’d be helpful and posted links everywhere; .newsgroups, chat rooms, etc.
My entry was doing well initially. I had a dozen votes (first place!), the next most popular had 9 votes, etc. There were a dozen or so entries.
Once my spamming began to have an effect it quickly became embarrassing. I was in first place with 800 votes, second place had 35 votes, and the numbers grew daily.
I emailed the shop and explained. I asked that they delete my entry, but the thought it was hilarious. I ended up winning a trophy.

There’s no right or wrong in terms of which photos anyone chooses to vote for, but for this one I decided that I’d pick ones where the water was itself the main subject of the photo, rather than being the background for a picture of something else.
