It actually seems to be making some kind of statement. The balloons are
< chef’s kiss >.
All right, this topic beat me. I’m posting an oldie but a goodie.
On the up side, I fell down a rabbit hole of all the awesome places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. Wow!
That’s been one of the cool side effects of this for me too… getting to find old photos and look at them in a new light.
I’m in!
More than once now, I’ve started to look for pics, got distracted & then realized the post window was closed.
Probably would have gone with this foggy morning in Tulip Bay for last month’s ‘Flowers’
I’m in as well, @Spiderman. More than once I’ve forgotten to enter my own competition!
That flowers shot is great. Love how the umbrella is against the grey background so it stands out.
In the end, and after some internal debate, I went with the more literal interpretation. The other one I was considering played with “reflections” in the sense of being lost in thought, and was a photo I grabbed of my dad as he was mulling something over (posted with his permission):
On balance I’m happy with the choice I made. I really like the portrait of my dad, but it would have been shoehorning it into the theme on a technicality, I think.
I wonder how many of us will blow it up to see what Dad’s reading. I tried.
It’s a historical novel by Ben Kane. Beyond that, I know nothing!
I already posted this one in last month’s competition. If I had kmown ‘reflections’ was coming, I would have saved it for this month:
I would like to make a suggestion regarding the format of the OP in this thread.
Where the monthly themes are listed, I would like to suggest that they be in reverse chronological order, with the most recent, first.
The point has now been reached where the current topic is below a prompt requiring an additional click to see it. I think it’d be better for it to be older topics that get hidden below that prompt, with the newest always at the top where it is most easily found.
Which actually brings to mind something I’ve been meaning to ask for a while – is there any rule against submitting the same photo more than once, if it happens to fit two (or more) themes?
I’m not sure if that’s possible – that seems to be just something Discourse does automatically by listing all the threads that link to this one, not something the OP did on purpose.
I think it would be cool if people interpreted the theme creatively.
Those are backlinks, created automatically by Discourse because I linked to this thread from each individual competition thread. I don’t think there’s anything we can do about the ordering - and since the edit window has long since closed I can’t change the OP at all without mod help.
This does bring us to the question of whether we need some kind of index to for the individual competition threads - but any index would suffer from the same problem that only the mods would be able to edit it, and I’m sure they have better things to do than update it every month.
In the meantime, the Discourse search function does find the threads quite easily.
Nothing in the rules against that.
There’s also bookmarks which is how I do it. At the bottom of the thread there is a bookmark button, click it and the thread is added to your bookmarks.
To view your bookmarks, click your avatar picture in the header, then click the little bookmark symbol on the right.

Very cool picture.
A picture of Diana Ross on stage would’ve been interesting to see if anyone “got it”.
When we choose the “reflections” theme, I knew people would do interesting things with it. We have many wonderful, imaginative photographers here.
That’s a weird juxtaposition with the balloons, I like it
And that’s a wrap. The poll is up over on the competition thread.
Thanks everyone. Another great month, with some fantastic photos. There’s one that leaps out at me that will definitely be getting one of my votes. The other two… well, it’s going to be a tough decision.
This one was a tough one to vote for – so many interesting subjects and interesting takes on the theme, and some top level compositions. Good job everyone. I’m sorry I didn’t have 9 or 10 votes to dole out in this contest…
