SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

Perhaps we should have a rule that the winner has a limited time to supply the theme for the next month, and if he doesn’t, that it falls to the runner-up.  Not sure how long the deadline should be, but ten days into the next month is way too long.

Perhaps we should let @Mean_Mr.Mustard select the theme and if he comes up dry, pass it down to @Crane.

No, it was @turek who won in February, it is theirs to pick.

mmm

It’s now ten days into March, and @Turek hasn’t picked.  If we’re going to have a contest for March, someone has to pick the theme, very soon, and it doesn’t look like @Turek is going to do so.

Do we know for sure that that’s the case? It seems equally likely that they did pick and PMed @TwoCarrotSnowman, who has not yet posted it here.

TwoCarrotSnowman emailed me after the last round and I told him I didn’t have any good ideas that were general enough (I’ve been super busy with work and honestly there was a bit of griping about my last topic.) He said he’d pick one.

OK, if nobody objects, how about this for a theme:

Patterns.

mmm

Works for me.

I vote aye.

“Patterns” should get some interesting pictures. Great idea.

Since I don’t hear any fussin’, I’m going to go ahead and make a thread for the March contest.

Hopefully @TwoCarrotSnowman is well and will be back with us very soon to take over.

mmm

Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Mustard. (You sure are awfully nice for a Mean guy…)

Dang, I’m gonna ruin my reputation.

mmm

Mr. Mustard the Merciful!

Hoping @TwoCarrotSnowman is okay.

Thanks for setting up a new competition mmm.

I am really liking the entries in the Patterns competition.

13 days until the deadline. I think I know what I want to submit, but I want to dig into the archives to see if there is anything better.

mmm

Re your submission: as you suspected, a bee house for carpenter bees.

I know these things by the name Bug Hotel.

Is this just a British term, then? They’re fairly common here - we passed one in a park in Lewes today.

No doubt you’re right. That picture looks more like what @Mean_Mr.Mustard posted.

In Germany they are called Insektenhotel, wikipedia knows that term too:
