I finally decided to enter one of these. It could also have gone in Food, but I didn’t notice that one until too late.
I’m glad! I’ve always wondered why more folks didn’t participate.
Well, I’m not much of a photographer. Occasionally I’ll notice something that I feel like is worthy of a snap, and even more occasionally, one of those shots I have lying around will be a match for one of these.

These always astonish me. The one I’d have chosen as winner isn’t near the top. If your photo isn’t doing well, remember that somebody out there thinks it kicked ass!

Two of my choices are in the top three! But I agree, there were so many wonderful photos picking the three to vote for was difficult. Too bad we can’t do ranked choice voting?
It was so hard this time! Usually I go through the photos once, noting which I liked. This gets me a list of 3, or maybe 4 or 5, when I have to compare just those
This time, my first pass had nearly half of the entrants, and I had to make a good 4 or 5 passes to whittle it down to 3!
Well, I didn’t get very many votes, but that’s OK, because I thought that others were better, too. But I am gratified that I got a couple.
And meanwhile, the one I thought best and my #4 pick (that just missed getting a checkmark) are tied for 1st, and the next one on the list is another one I voted for, so I think everyone else got it pretty much right.
I am curious about @Mean_Mr.Mustard 's entry. It looks like a much better fit for eerie atmospheric than for texture, and what’s the story behind that, anyway? Why is there a barber’s chair in a dungeon?
I took this during a tour of Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. This is where the inmates got their hairs cut. The prison was in operation from 1829-1971.
I like the textures of the peeling walls, so…texture.

For last month’s food theme I was honestly surprised my entry got as many votes as it did, because I felt it was sub par compared to the other entries. I guess we’re all our own worst critics.

I think this will be a really lovely month.
Thank you! I took it at dusk with a heavy zoom lens and no tripod. Even though I knelt down it was still a bitch to hold the camera still long enough to get a good shot. I took three or four, I think, and this was the only usable one – and the forequarters are still a bit blurry at that.
When processing the image I made sure to keep that bit of fence in the background.
