The idea for this thread may have already been proposed (and worked with) in the past, but I haven’t tried to locate any older threads on this issue. Besides, this one is for the currently active SDMB crowd.
Based on the responses to CanvasShoes’s Define “bad movie”. I started List 5 GOOD Movies and 5 BAD Movies to try to get some specifics out for all to see and play with.
A partial list of the nominated movies can be seen here.
As you probably know, The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has listings for Top 250 movies as voted by our users (IMDb ratings 9.1 - 7.9) and IMDb Bottom 100 (IMDb ratings 1.2 - 2.4).

NOW
The point to this thread is to see how SDMB movie fans differ from the crowd that provides IMDb with their ratings.
Those who have already participated in the “List 5 GOOD Movies…” thread may wish to start with their own picks for that thread. OR, they may wish to select from the summarized lists of Good and Bad Movies linked to above. OR, they may wish to start from scratch and use the IMDb lists as something to work from.
If you’re new to this latest exercise by having started with this thread, the choice is yours.
======================================
HERE’S THE GOAL OF THIS THREAD
However you go about it, select 5 Movies Each (that you have seen) from IMDb’s listings that need to be replaced by your own choices for placement on the TOP 250 and Bottom 100 lists. Using your own version of the 0-10 scale IMDb uses, provide your own such rating for those 10 selected movies, and REPLACE them on those lists with your own choices for BETTER or WORSE films with your own 0-10 rating for your chosen movies.
In effect it should go like this for each of the IMDb lists:
- Select five movies on each list that ought not to be there.
- Think of 5 movies of your own (not already on the IMDb lists) that ought to be there
- Give your own 1-10 rating for their movies coming off and
- Give your own 1-10 rating for your movies you’re replacing them with
Assuming there are enough replies to this OP, we should be able to demonstrate that the tastes of SDMB are significantly different from those at IMDb.
And assuming we get enough movies listed as a composite, perhaps we can have our own version of a Top X-Number and a Bottom X-Number for future uses when the issue comes up.

Feel free to add comments and/or restrictions/refinements to this OP’s objectives.
Most of all, have fun!
