SDMB Musical Lovers' Salon and Debating Society

It’s okay with me – as I said, it looks like an interesting film, and since I live in a major city, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find a copy without too much trouble.
Let’s slap an extra weekend on the usual three weeks, though, to give people a couple of extra days:

Sunday, October 26th for your OP?

Sure. And FWIW, I’d be happy to organize a Seattle showing, if anyone’s interested. Other cities, anyone?

Good idea.

Philly and vicinity – I’d be happy to host.

Rather a hijack (sorry, twickster), but I thought everyone might be interested to know that TCM is showing musicals all month long every Tuesday and Wednesday during October.

Not a hijack – this is the place for all news of interest to members of the Society. I was planning to post this myself. (Even though I don’t have cable. :frowning: )

Not only are they showing musicals all month long every Tuesday and Wednesday, but they are also doing this on Monday 10/4!

Happy, Happy, Happy Dance here!

Twicks my darling dear editor… October 26th is a Tuesday.

bummer lissener, I’ll be in Covington the following week.

Sorry – I hadn’t flipped to the October page on the calendar yet.

Sunday the 24th.

Being the fag hag I am, I jumped right over the main article and right to the What a Drag! section and now have a note to catch a couple of those movies.

For the record, Some Like it Hot was one of the first VHS tapes I ever bought!

FYI, while That’s Entertainments I and* II* are entertaining and nostalgic, That’s Entertainment III is one of the most fascinating and informative documentaries I have ever seen. Not to be missed.

LOL. If you haven’t, you should get the dvd. There are some terrific interviews included.

PS. Being gay, fag hags are some of my favorite people!

I shall have to do that Supervenusfreak! Jack Lemmon was one of my all time favorites( except The Odd Couple, cant stand that one) and one of my first and longest lasting celeb crushes.

*adds Some Like it Hot to my Christmas list!

The main interview is with Tony Curtis. Leonard Maltin conducts it. He has some great stories about the making of the movie. Another really fun interview is with some of the ladies who played band members. One of the ladies was actually Marilyn’s body double in movie posters, and publicity stills. Great stuff!

For thems as were off doing things IRL over the weekend –

The next film is Distant Voices, Still Lives (see link in post # 115), and lissener will start the discussion on Sunday, October 24th.

I will be out of town that week, hopefully I will have a chance to keep an eye on the thread.

Am hoping to find that movie so I can participate. I have tried the local library to no avail. :frowning: . It does sound like a movie that I would really like too.

There’s a video-rental-by-mail outfit out of Philadelphia, IIRC.

Will your library do an interlibrary loan for you?

Yeah, Video Library. That was my local store when I lived in Mt. Airy – it now requires a slight detour on the way home.

Lissener has been banned. (See the “overrated directors” thread if you want to know why – yep, Paul Verhoeven. Who’da thunk?)

Should we stay with this film and wait for a volunteer (Ilsa, I’m looking at you) to be the OP on it, or move on to the next chooser? That would be koeeoaddi.

I’d be happy to write up an OP on the film, but will be equally happy to concede the point and move forward (it’s a terrific film, but admittedly a bit hard to find; in short, I’ve got no dog in this hunt one way or the other).

Let me know…
