Wow, well done everyone! Very impressive, and tough choice to have to make. And yes, thanks for doing this, Le Ministre de l’au-delà!
Great poems! Thank you for organizing, Ministre, it’s very fun and I’ve started looking forward to it. And the spoilers were exactly what I was looking for, so that worked out fine.
Very, very good. I like the format and the poems. Hope a lot of people will vote.
I think this is the best crop of poems yet, some of those are truly incredible. I must remember to vote this time, though for which one, I don’t know yet… I actually was quite happy with my own submission (well, I still am, kinda), and I certainly like it better than my last one, but I’m not sure I can compete. I’ll just blame a too dismal outcome on the missing blank line between the 4th and 5th stanza that seems to have gotten lost in translation somehow…
For those wondering about the historical background to this poem: Massacre of Glencoe - Wikipedia
Indeed. That was some disturbing reading I came across a while back when I was googling a nearby street name.
On a different topic, I think we talked in the logistics thread about getting this stickied for a day or two with “PLEASE VOTE” added to the title. Anybody recall if that seemed doable?
Didn’t the mod for this forum say they’d absolutely do it, and to just hit them up and/or report the thread for sticky?
ETA: Reported for sticky.
I thought better of King William III before I knew of his role in approving those orders. Unpardonable.
I agree with those who said that this is the best crop so far; a definite wow. And it’s a fun challenge to do, even if you’re not competing. Good mental exercise.
This is the first time I have participated, and I am absolutely cowed by all the talent here! Going right now to read all the previous anthologies I missed. Moo.
Shot From Guns suggested we sticky this while the voting is going on – I thought that was a good idea, so I went ahead and did it. Le Ministre, if you’d prefer we not sticky it, report this post and one of us will unstick it.
Since Elendil’s Heir is describing the backstory on his poem, I figured I could share mine. It’s based on the Edgar Allan Poe poem “Lenore.” It’s supposed to be almost a prequel, as if she wrote it to him before she died.
Thanks, but it wasn’t my poem, it was maserschmidt’s.
I liked the Poe reference, too.

Obviously, I had just seen *The Crazies *the night before the competition and it fit in well with the word structure (don’t worry - I really don’t give much away!)
Just stumbled on this. Totally cool idea! I’ve got to tell my prof about this and my friends. Love reading them. Serenata67, love Poe. I mean, LOVE POE.
Aww, thanks TrunkJunk83!
Just curious… what happens if there’s a tie? We have 4 poems with 3 votes each… and voting ends tomorrow!
I’m not sure - given the words and the theme this round, I really don’t want to suggest ‘sudden death overtime’. Shootout? Umm, maybe not that, either…
For the moment, I’m just hoping that some more people will vote in the next 32 hours and solve that whole problem…
Well, I finally voted – but instead of breaking the tie, I added another poem to it.
If the tie still exists, perhaps run another round with only the poems that are tied, so the people who voted for a different poem could break the tie?
I like Twickster’s idea. Perhaps another vote would work. We had so many great poems, it really split the vote!
