I’m down for that!
Someone’s poem got the up-vote to 4, so that probably won’t be necessary!
First of all, I’d like to extend my congratulations to all of our poets. In order, the poems were contributed by -

And, I’d like to extend a special congratulations to Pandoranoid, who is our Poet Laureate of the SDMB. Very well done, indeed.
I’m hoping to run another Poetry Sweatshop toward the end of March. In the meantime, I’m interested in your reaction to how some of the nuts and bolts worked out this month - in particular, the spoiler boxes and the sticky on the thread. For my part, I quite liked the spoiler boxes. I’m still not sure what the answer is to getting more people to vote - what are your collective thoughts?
Until March, then, my best wishes to all of you,
Le Ministre
Another great contest, Minister, so a big thank you for organizing and managing it! The poems seem to get better every month.
On names: I think I was the one who asked for names to be hidden, and the spoiler boxes worked perfectly for me. Not sure if other people were looking for something different.
On voting: I admit I’m surprised by the low levels of voting. Perhaps next time the sticky should temporarily include a preface of PLEASE VOTE!!! Otherwise…I don’t know what else you could do to get people to actually read and vote.
I was pleased by everything about it. I hope you’ll do it just the same next time, Ministre. Thanks for your hard work.
Congratulations, Pandoranoid! Well done!
And thanks again, Le Ministre. It was great fun!
I liked the sticky and the spoiler boxes. Perhaps for next month, we should submit the voting thread to threadspotting. It’ll draw people in who may not be looking for it.
Yes, maybe this - or just something a little flashier and less daunting. The current thread title somehow feels a bit intimidating or (forgive me!) dull, which it shouldn’t, because the contest and resulting poems are neither.
And I liked the spoiler boxes.
I too liked the spoiler boxes and was very impressed by the overall event. I would also agree that perhaps the thread title for the voting should better reflect that. Something like “Vote Here for the next SDMB Poet Laureate” or something.
I’ll be happy to rename the thread, if necessary, when I sticky it. Threadspotting is also a good idea, though that’s TubaDiva’s call.
I volunteer to take the onus to nominate it for threadspotting. If **TubaDiva **is amenable, we’ll have it up. But I’ll make sure it gets nominated so she’s aware of it and all.
Okay, late to the party here: what exactly is threadspotting?
Threadspotting is when they highlight a particular thread on the main page of www.straightdope.com. It gives people who might not normally go to the MB something to read that might interest them.
I agree with everyone that the spoilers and such worked out well. I feel awgully lucky to have snagged that one extra vote. Everyone did such a great job, and voting was so low, that it doesn’t really seem indicative of much more than luck. We definitely need a way to draw in more voters. Anyway, it was fun, and the competition was wholly impressive. At the risk of sounding far perkier than I ever should, kudos to all.
and I think the next competition should require everyone to use the word ‘awgully’ in a poem.
I just meant that I couldn’t control that, the way I can lock and/or retitle a thread, myself. I’ll of course be happy to bring it to her attention, but I don’t have access to change the main page.
I think I saw that movie: Ferngully 2: Awgully Electric Boogaloo.
I understand that. But it would be one more idea.
You truly are a poet.
Aw… thanks.
