SDMB Question: Does It Bother You.....

I only find it irksome when they respond to part of a post but in such a way that does not address the meat of the post or advance the discussion in a useful way.

Alice: Serious Business Serious Business Serious Business.
Bob: “Serious Business” Serious Business Serious Business Lame Joke.
Alice: “Lame Joke” Serious Business!

You see, everyone, there’s a time when a man has to decide if he’s a MAN or well, just some lint under another man’s toenails. You have to decide whether you have the stuff needed by the whole of HUMAN RACE, to defend, protect, and guard the ideas of everything that we hold dear. You can’t just sit back and go, “Oh no, I’m not up for that.” You have to do it. That’s what deciding is all about.

So get out there my brothers, and make those Martians PAY!

Well, of course I know all of that, but what I cannot decide is the color of my aluminum headress!

Should it be red to greet the Martian Ambassador or green/blue as a representative of earth?

Then there’s also the dilemma of wearing brown to represent the denizens who inhabit a place called The Pit.
Q

It bothers me a little, especially in GD where people are constantly saying that new blood is needed. I read there constantly, but seldom posts, and I see plenty of folks that aren’t normally there that asks questions that are then ignored. When it’s done to me, I just ask again and usually someone deigns to respond that second time.

What really irks me is when someone addresses me with an issue specifically, then when I answer says exactly jack shit. I know that shouldn’t get to me, but I see it as more of a manners thing. You mean I was interesting / infuriating / whatever enough that you decided to engage, but the reply I type wasn’t even worth a “ok.” Just seems like the epitome of self-centered to me.

I just assume the person hasn’t seen it yet.

It would really depend on the question. I ask some pretty stupid questions as well as questions that have no direct answers yet. When I ask a simple question though, and it goes unanswered I begin to wonder… “Maybe they aren’t answering because my question reflects ignorance in me and they see it as a waste of time to answer it or can’t answer it without being rude”…

Doesn’t usually get to me though. When I ask a question I don’t expect an answer. An answer is nice, but not expected. Hell, some of the time I’d have been happier without the answers…

Look at the bottom right of this post. There are three buttons. The one in the middle has a big quotation mark on it. It’s just to the right of the one that says “Quote.” Hit that button. It will turn orangey.

Now look at any other post. Hit the middle button on that one too.

Now go to the bottom and hit the “Post Reply” button.

You will see that both this post and also the other one that you hit the multi-quote button for are in quote tags in the reply box. You can just insert your answer to the first one in between the two messages.

Now go back to the thread. Hit the multi-quote button on this post. Go to another post. Hit the “Quote” button on that post. Again, both messages are quoted in the reply box. So it works either way.

Thanks, Bean!

I’m one of those who hardly ever refers back to a thread I posted in. So if you asked me a question in a particular thread, it’s not because I am ignoring you, it’s because I didn’t know you asked.

Pretty convenient, indeed. I had vaguely noticed it but didn’t know what it was used for and hadn’t even bothered to mouse-over.

Nope. It happens all the time.

I’ve done it myself so I’m not bothered when its happened to me.
When I’ve done it usually I’ve decided that I’ll reply when I’ve got more time and then got distracted…hey theres a butterfly !I’ll finish this later.

It doesn’t bother me nearly as much as when I provide a link to a site that answers a question, and then another poster pops in with the same comment or question that caused me to find the link in the first place. That means they are either a) too lazy to click on the link, or b) haven’t bothered to read the thread.

Huh. Just gotta try it.

Yeah, thanks! I didn’t know this, either.

Thanks for that great idea, rucciface!

Q

Oops. Um, yeah… No, it doesn’t bother me. Sorry, Q.

I might ignore people a lot, I just don’t know. I come in for about 15 min twice a day, or sometimes not for weeks on end.

If I ask a specific person a question I will check the next day for an answer, if its not there, I move on and forget about it.
