SDMB Retrospective US Presidential Elections 1864

Lincoln and Liberty once again! Let there be no peace with the slavers and traitors! Unconditional surrender and abolition!

Lincoln easily. Don’t change horses in mid-stream.

Not even close. We have a President who’s now winning the war versus a former general who lost most of his battles. And McClellan agreed with Lincoln on the issue of continuing the war. So McClellan’s platform seemed to be promising to do the same thing that Lincoln was doing but not doing it as well.

Well that and McClellan probably wouldn’t have supported the 13th Amendment.

Long Lincoln a little longer!

Not a real tough one, considering Lincoln’s opposition was about the worst field general that Lincoln ever had. Mind you, he could get those troops equipped and trained, but wan’t too keen on actually using them. Best move Lincoln ever made was firing his sorry ass.

Who voted for Other? Oh, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Surprised by the groupthink or courage?

I’m not surprised the proponents of good government and republican democracy happened to vote for the guy who deported political enemies and issues arrest warrants for the Chief Justice.

Posting neo-Confederate crap anonymously on a messageboard is not “courage.”

Neo-confederate? What are you babbling on about bud?

Funny how you didn’t deny the groupthink. Thanks for not posting some article by Michael Lind about how groupthink created the industrial revolution or some bullshit

Abraham linkon is best…

dropzone and WillFarnaby, stick to discussing the topic and quit picking fights with other posters.

WillFarnaby, if you want to discuss old Conspiracy Theories, open a new thread to do it.

Too late for the poll, but I’d definitely be for Lincoln. Smart, canny, able, determined, and has learned from his many mistakes. Second only to Washington (and that, only narrowly) as a great President. Victory is in sight against the traitors of the Confederacy, and the scourge of slavery is well on the way to extinction. Now if only he’d take his own personal security a little more seriously…

Cite? Lincoln ordered Copperhead leader Clement Vallandigham’s deportation, true, but a military tribunal had ordered him imprisoned for life. I deny he ever issued an arrest warrant for the Chief Justice (Taney, I assume you mean).

The word you are looking for is “consensus.”
