As in, those who are aged under 18? Who don’t have credit cards? Will they be forced to the chopping block?
Here is one thread talking about sponsorship if people don’t have the money. I’ve also seen some dopers offer the use of their credit cards, as long as they get the money from the person using the CC#. There are a ton of threads about this that have gone on over the past couple of weeks. I don’t have time to go through all of them, but a couple of quick searches on the subject should find you more of what you are looking for.

Two words: Money orders.
I would be willing to bet that our younger set has more access to funds than the adults do.
In any event, we’re not worried about it.

Tuba, I thought I saw you say somewhere that money orders and checks couldn’t be accepted because they would be too much trouble to process. True? If so, that scours me off the site.
While nothing has of yet been formally decided or announced or anything (it’s still early days), what I have heard and reliably report is that electronic forms of payment will most likely be the only way to go here. That means credit cards or PayPal or one of the other services of that type.
Again, nothing has been decided, nothing has been announced, it’s all in the formative stages. But keep in mind that processing checks and money orders is expensive and often annoying for a company and the resulting recordkeeping after often costs more than the original transaction is worth.

Really? This could be a problem for me…
I only have one credit card (personal choice… and this is not the place to rant…), and the bill is paid by my sister in Maine, USA… I reimburse her every few months for the few charges that I place on my one CC…
Online, some sites will accept my CC (Amazon and a few others…) but some will NOT (as my IP address is in Korea, while the billing address is in the US)…
I may have to get another credit card, or work something else out…
Get a volenteer like you do for the mods. I can’t see it bein a HUGE issue as most people would use CCs.
An Acess or Excel program would be easy enuff to write to keep track.
Perhaps they could save their money and build character by dispensing of their gold teeth, “hip” clothing, athletic sneakers, immoral television programs and (wince) rock & roll music. And get jobs. Why, I had a job shovelling mosquito feces (and liking it) when I was 15 years old!!!
These young people today are so irresponsible with their money.

Most of you have at least one parent who has at least one credit card.
Some of you have your OWN credit cards. Buy a little less beer and get a subscription to the Straight Dope.
While I do not doubt there are disadvantaged teens in the world, I bet most Teen Dopers are not in that category.
