I certainly do remember those skates, missy! Admittedly, mine weren’t first generation but for some reason there was a pair around - the pair I learned on actually. They were not comfortable! Also, the metal wheels were like when you get a bad shopping cart at the grocery store. Not smooth Do not get me started on the chains we used to make from chewing gum wrappers. That’s right kids; gum did not always come in cube form.
Did you do the hand games like Oh Suzy Playmate too? And do you remember the jump rope jingles?
I might be able to come up with some of the jump-rope jingles <pours more coffee>. “Not last night but the night before… 24 robbers came knocking at my door…” That sounds pretty grim, eh?
We did the patting hands games but didn’t have one called Oh Suzy Playmate. Can’t remember what we called them.
Search turned up a Doper thread from 2005. Sooner or later we talk about everything here.
Hurrah! Got my Valentines from faithfool and peedin. Thanks, ladies! I will enjoy playing with the fortuneteller, faithfool. And peedin sent me a cool handmade Valentine that will double beautifully as a bookmark when I read an hardcover. Perfect item from a librarian to a former librarian!
Hanging my head in shame since I haven’t gotten my Valentines out yet!!! This week has been a nightmare. I will definitely post them tomorrow but they will be late to most recipients.
Cards received from ThelmaLou, missed, and Buckwheat. Nothing like a little Eddie Murphy to make me laugh… I think missed and I share a paper crafting hobby.
And you would be right.
Anyone remember making a chain from gum wrappers? You folded the wrapper into a V form, then linked them so it looked like herringbone. Gary Duschl's World Record Gum Wrapper Chain
I got 3 last night. i’m gonna have to up my craft game next year. y’all knocked it out of the park!
I got a card from Thelma Lou and a bookmark from **Rocking Chair/B]! Thank you both!
I got 2 more cards tonight, and a package. One was the fortune teller from faith fool, My fortune said “you rock!”. How did it know??!
Emilyg, you want above and beyond. I do painted boxes, and this the first I’ve gotten as a gift. Thank you! ( the eraser is fun.)
I’m enjoying the love from missed, peedin, wookinpanub (love the rocking chair), thelmalou, and Emilyg.
I also got 2 cards, and lovely box with chocolates and an eraser from Emily. One card is a cute bookmark with kittehs on it, and the other was my fortune teller. The fortune teller predicts a total prince, so I am awaiting his arrival.
Glad you liked what I gave you, rocking chair and peedin.
Ok, I see I’m not the only one who mailed out a bit belatedly… Mine will probably all show up next week, I guess.
I got my fortune teller from faithfool, too - what a fun blast from the past!
ThelmaLou used a Paul Newman stamp, for that hubba-hubba touch.
Paula and missred both have quite the artistic talents.
Wookinpanub included a really touching message… And somehow found a purple horseshoe sticker for the envelope! Points!!
Y’all are so sweet. This really made my holiday.
Gawd, I hope yours show up!!
I haven’t received any Valentines yet, but I am in the position of living in a different country from most of you (plus some being sent out a bit late.) But I don’t mind getting things a bit late.
I love all of mine! The handmade cards are always a favorite. I keep them long after whatever occasion has passed and they’ve inspired me to buy a book on learning how to make some myself. I thought the little box was an adorable. Emily, it was just perfect. And the personalized sticker made me laugh out loud. Too cute indeed!
I think they’re all just wonderful and so are the folks that sent them. Thank y’all so much for making my first post-Jaceson Valentines better than I could’ve hoped for.
I’m also thrilled everyone liked the fortune tellers. I had tons of fun making and playing with those things as a kid, I just had to share. Yippee that it was a hit!
PS: My pets were also a huge fan of the petals. What a cool idea.
I double-stamped yours (since I wasn’t sure of postage) but yeah … Late as heck.
I loved mine, too. The little box was adorable, the candy, the handmade ones, the petals-- so cute. WPN added a ThelmaLou sticker!
Glad you liked my little box, ThelmaLou.
Got some absolutely lovely valentines from **peedin **and missred. Thank you!
Yay! Just got another Valentine from Grrlbrarian–I love that. Like when your birthday has been over for a week and one more prezzie/card shows up in the mail. Cute sticky hearts…what shall I stick them on…?
I got so many lovely Valentines on Saturday! Thanks to ThelmaLou for the adorable dog card. I almost sent those too! And rockingchair, I can put that bookmark to most excellent use. I’ve been nibbling away at your candies in the lovely purple box, EmilyG! You totally saved me on the Valentine’s Day candy craving front. I loved the see-through card from missred: Did you make that? Talent!!! And amarinth, it was so cool to get petals in the nice hand-made card. I’m saving those petals for creative re-use one of these days.
Also saving the amazing sticker-ma-thing from WOOKINPANUB, and I adored the sassy cut-out photos, too!
