SDMB Wine Club - Argentina Red Table Wine

It’s been a LONG TIME since our last installment, but I just tried a new wine tonight that was so good I had to share.

It’s an Argentinian Red Table Wine, Tikal Patriota 2005

I would say their notes are pretty spot on.

Local Price: $22

If you can find this one, give it a try

I’ve had that one several times. Very big & fruity. Definitely worth looking for.

Comes in champagne bottles, if I’m remembering right.

Now that you mention it, that’s correct. The bottle was heftier than usual but it just didn’t sink in as to the reason why.

Thanks friend Flickster

I am always up for a good bottle of wine.

I am pretty new to this… and to prove the point… i am going to ask a very noob question…

What is supposed to be the implication of a “table wine”. Good for with dinner? Good for drinking in large amounts? A general term to describe a blended wine that has no traditional definition?

I have seen this term used with other Argentinean Bonardas as well and my assumption has been that it was a local everyday pour. Maybe someone can chime in with something other than an assumption.

Wikipedia says its meaning differs in the US vs. EU.

In the US, it basically means the wine is not fortified or sparking. In the EU, it’s a regulated term indicating the wine does not meet the criteria for a “Quality Wine Produced in Specified Regions.”

My own impression was that “table wine” referred to a blended wine, but I have no idea where I got that from.
