SDMB Wine Club - Week 23

Yalumba
Torbeck
3 Rings

Tried the Yalumba last night and the 3 Rings plus the Torbeck tonight.

Torbeck is the class of the three with Yalumba and 3 rings being tied for a close 2nd.

The Torbeck seemed to have a peppery tone and blended well with the overall smoothness.

End result - I would be happy to have either of the three in our rack, but I will make it a point to stock the Torbeck’s

Just wanted to bring this one back up in case additional tasting/drinking/swilling has taken place.

Pulled out the defibrillator paddles and gave this thread a little zap…see if I can induce a pulse back into the SDMB Wine club
Tried a different Shiraz from the Barossa Valley tonight and just had to give it the passing marks it deserves.

Layer Cake Shiraz- deep red color, dark and rich with dark berry tones along with chocolate & spice. I think it was about $13 at Specs

I’ve simply got to get in the swing of things here. I keep meaning to subscribe but my wife keeps taking my credit card!
I am a wine-lover: I used to sell it for a modest wage, and I’ve worked in a few fine-dining establishments here in Cincinnati (yes…they actually exist here!).
I just bought a new home though, and money has been a little tight with kids and the wifey temporarily between jobs, so I’ve been swilling cheap beer as my libation of choice for the time being.
I would love the chance to get involved here.

My personal favorite wines that I have tried recently:

Catena Malbec, Argentina ($20)
Donnhoff Hermannshole Auslese ($50)
Seghesio Zin Sonoma ($18)
I am a sucker for a well-made Zinfandel, and the regular Sonoma bottling of the Seghesio is consistently very good.

I also really like aged German Rieslings, when I can afford them. Ditto Alsatian whites.

Argentina and Chile provide a lot of value in their Malbecs and Cabernets.

Have become less and less of a fan of the blowsy “California Style” Chardonnay, buttery, oaky…blech.

Anyhoo, once I get subscribed and I get my wine money back, I would love to contribute.

Cheers.
