SDMB Wine Club: Week 24

Week 23 thread.

Sommelier list.

Looks like Helen’s Eidolon is up. So, what shall it be?

Aiee. Thanks to people for alerting me! Last time I looked I thought I’d be up in February.

Unfortunately, it’s the end of the semester and I haven’t had much time for drinking lately. Could we pass on to the next sommelier and let me try again in the new year?

Thanks, Helen’s Eidolon, for not leaving us hanging (and thirsty)

Looks like Great Dave would be next up.

I’ll send him a PM just in case.

Individually I know these words, but I don’t think that I’ve ever seen them together in this order. Is it an anagram?

She hasn’t been drinking “lately”, due to lack of time. Sounds like “lately” is a drink that takes a lot of time. I’m sure she’s been drinking stuff that takes less time, though.

Does that clear things up?

No, it’s a cry for help.

Sounds like drinking partners are needed. We’ll be right over… :stuck_out_tongue:

Incidently, if you hadn’t noticed, I’m out for the moment. Until i get a job, I can hardly justify spending my wifes hard earned money on fancy wine. Wasn’t there a thread on where to find Nightrain recently? Where did that go? …

I finally got around to updating the sheet. Looks like we’re running out of sommeliers soon.

Any more takers? Throw your name in and I’ll get it on there. Should we start signing up for a second go round of the sommeliers still active in the club?

I’ve been terrible about posting my notes too. I’ve got notes at home for 5 or 6 of the wines, maybe I’ll throw them up some time this weekend. Looking forward to this week’s pick.

Anyone wishing to join in the fun is not only welcome, but encouraged to jump on (or would that be off) the wagon :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks like we will get to the end of our current sommelier list early February. I assume we would just start over from the top at that point. Maybe reset the week number with Season II, Week One.

While we are awaiting Dave, I just wanted to mention that the 2007 Cousino Macul Sauvignon Gris is now on the shelf in Houston. Just tried a bottle tonight with some smoked salmon pizza and it is just as good as before. If you can locate it, the search is well worth the effort.

No sign of Great Dave yet? If his research for his pick involved a butt of Malmsey, I fear the worst. We may need to send in a search party.

Flickster, so far I have had absolutely no luck in finding your wine locally. In fact, a Google search for “Sauvignon Gris” seems to bring up Cousino Macul as being one of the only producers of this wine. I can find other wines by them, just not this one. There is a wine store west of here that usually has a good selection of South American wines, and I’ll be out there this week; I lucked out finding our Malbec pick there. I will keep looking.

Electronic search parties have been sent out in search of Great Dave. Hopefully he will be making his way to the podium with his pick soon.

I had a bottle of their red a few weeks ago. Can’t remember if it was Malbec or Cab, but I do remember that it was really good. They’re definitely on my list for “trying other wines under their label”.

If Great Dave doesn’t show up tomorrow, let’s tap the next person. Seems like interest in this club is waning, though, as we’re only getting a handful of reviewers lately. Maybe a change in format will make sense in the New Year.

Does anyone know the proper spelling of SiouxChef’s username. I tried to send him a PM, but was told there is no such member. He’d be next on the sommelier list.

There is a SiouxChief - wonder if that is the same person

We can find out…

::rushes in, out of breath::

Sorry, sorry.

I hope it’s not too late.

Now, what to pick…

How about Justin Cabernet?

Ok, I admit. I haven’t been following the wine club as I shoud be. Hopefully no one has picked it already.

For those who might be thinking of joining in but don’t want to read 23 past threads, is there a master list of which wines have been covered? Maybe also a brief explanation of what is expected.
