I have a strong interest though in Catholicism, if only because of the historical and artistic value (plus I’m married to a Catholic). But I’m not interested in religion and don’t agree with where Rome sits on most things.
Grew up nominally Christian, although my family was never particularly religious. Christmas and Easter was typically more of a reason to have a large feast than to commemorate any religious event. Went through protracted phases of agnosticism, which was really more about doubting Christianity than anything else. I ended up converting to Judaism.
But by believing, you are in fact saying you’ve found the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything.
And I am content not only in not believing, but in knowing that it’s ok if I don’t know. It doesn’t mean I’m not curious…it just means I don’t feel the need to adopt a belief that is based on nothing more than a warm vibe.
Me either.
I never said you were insane, simple-minded, fundamentalist, antagonistic or pathetic.
You can avoid that by not opening yourself up to discussing it. If you want everyone to agree with you, there are churches and on-line theist groups who will bolster your every religious whim.
I prefer the term antitheist to describe my beliefs (or lack thereof, depending on your point of view), but in the rare instances it actually comes up, I’ll typically answer with atheist to avoid the inevitable conversation that answer always seems to induce.
I acknowledge that I can’t prove there is no god. Neither can I prove there is no Flying Spaghetti Monster. I don’t need to provide the proof in either case. The burden of proof – or even passable evidence – is on the believer.
Thank you for doing this - it surprises me that there was only *one * self-proclaimed Hindu on this board! Not that I expected tons, but I thought there’d at least be 4-5. Did **xash ** answer, I wonder?
