I like these threads because I like to complain.
All of the SDMB “inside jokes,” the “Hi Opal,” Yakov Smirnoff imitations, etc. are annoying as hell. It’s the kind of thing that was probably funny the first 500 times but not anymore.
Defensiveness. Some board members can’t bear to admit that they overstated a point, overgeneralized, or were just plain wrong. So they’ll try to argue a point to its most ridiculous extreme to avoid saying “oops, got that wrong.”
One-trick posters. People who you are guaranteed to accurately predict their contribution because all they ever do is present one view or one perspective.
In Russia, Opal lists YOU!
hands head in shame
This is turning into a bitchfest I guess. I actually enjoy the Russian humour jokes.
“Good on ya” is spreading insidiously. I was in Kuala Lumpur sitting on a hot bus. Nearby was a Dutch aircrew. I couldn’t follow a word. But when the (Malay) driver was good enough to get on and start the aircon, a Dutch pilot yelled out “Good on ya, mate!” to the driver. Who smiled and waved in response.
Where the hell did that come from?
Shouldn’t that be “In Soviet Russie, Opal says Hi! to you!”
Old and beaten: Yakov Smirnoff “In Soviet Russia” one-liners.
New and hot: “You know who else (liked dogs, was anti-smoking, built good roads, liked blonds, drove a Mercedes, etc)?”
The Jews! The Jews hate grass!
