What are your biggest specific SDMB annoyances?

If any of these choices baffle you, you may find an explanation in this thread.

If your suggestion from within the above mentioned thread is absent, that is likely because I could not phrase it in a way that would make it condensed enough to fit in as a poll question.

Feel free to comment and offer up other annoyances; I’ll probably ask a mod to close the other thread.

To the polls!
mmm

[Mod mod]Changed “you” to “your” in title.[/Mod mod]

Just forgot one:

cow-orker.

Hate it.

Uh, people who annoy about putting things in the right forum.

Shouldn’t this be in About this Message Board?

Bad puns are what keep me coming back here!

I voted for the “nitpicking / semantics to avoid the real question” one. I often come here to read in my leisure time, hoping to learn something. Many times I will open what seems like it will be an interesting question / topic / thread in GQ. Often it seems like there will be about several dozen posts, but none of them really answer the question. The posts will often be along the lines of “well, your question is invalid anyways bc…” or “really, it depends on what you mean by ”, which is then followed by many posts of vitriolic bickering over the meaning of , or some other tangential issue. Meanwhile, the basic question of the OP remains unanswered.

QFT

So many choices! This is obviously the most annoying place around!:stuck_out_tongue:

I voted for more than a handful of the choices, but I figure they just go with the territory. Even if you were to surgically remove all of these annoying things, they’d just be replaced by other, possibly ***more ***annoying things.

this is an internet message board. in terms of annoyances, what goes on here is way less irritating than other boards. most of the things listed in the poll are found at pretty much every other message board out there. If there’s anything that annoys me it’s the self-congratulatory stuff about how awesome and smart we all are. well, I hang around Ars Technica and they feel the same way about themselves.

Also, not mentioning any names, but (in GQ) the people who routinely quote other posters and write underneath “utter nonsense”…“complete bs”…“again, more nonsense” etc. There are some people who seem like they’re just WAITING to do it. Even if it is “utter nonsense”, it seems rude to me, and it’s a total turnoff from posting here. I don’t want to seem like Ms. Manners over here, I just think there are more polite ways of disputing someone who probably meant well, that’s all.

It doesn’t really fit the above- repetition.

Example: Somebody asks in an OP “What are some movies about D-Day?”

Post number 3 is:

Post number 7 is:

Post number 21 is:

It’s understandable when it’s a simulpost (and even 5 minutes or more apart can be a simulpost), but it’s irritating when

1- They’re hours or days apart (I’ve even seen zombie threads resurrected to say the same thing that somebody else had already said)

2- You haven’t added anything to the original post (i.e. “Actually Saving Private Ryan was about the Crimean War, but they changed it for the American release”)

3- It’s not a 10 page thread but one that has three pages or even less.

If you don’t want to read every post in the thread at least do a CTRL+F to see if it’s been mentioned.

Voted other for…

Claiming to have “won” a thread.

Posting “I see what you did there” when it is usually obvious to everyone reading the thread what was done.

The annual pittsburgh steelers thread.

The zealous SEC worship.

I wish I knew what Poll: Poll: meant so I can decide if I want to vote for it.

This is why I chose “responding without reading”.

When it’s something this simple, I don’t necessarily read every post either, but I do try to make it a point to do a page search for “ryan” before I post.

I should have mentioned this in the other thread but I didn’t think of it until now:

Responding to someone’s complaint or argument with the assertion that the fact the person cares enough to make a post means that they spend too much time on the Internet and are therefore a giant loser covered in Cheeto dust and probably living in their mom’s basement.

I’ve mentioned this before, but my biggest annoyance is, in opinion threads, usually in Cafe Society, when the thread topic is something like, “What’s the greatest sports film of all time?”, and someone gives their answer and follows it up with, “Thread over.” or “Mods, you may feel free to lock the thread now.” Yeah, I know, they don’t really mean it literally, and they’re just trying to be cute. I still find it highly annoying to insinuate that your opinion trumps everyone elses.

Yes,yes,yes.

Zombie threads resurrected by first time posters.

um… You have “All lowercase posts”, but where’s teh “All uppercase posts”

Just sayin’

(I voted for Semantics nitpicking & avoiding the real topic and Responding without reading thread. I almost voted for All lowercase posts, but really it’s indecipherable posts with long run-on paragraphs, not the lack of capitals)

Thought of another one, threads that start with “In Which”.Won’t even open them.
