Seagate creating multiple back up folders?

Hello, on my old seagate drive (500gb) I used to be able to backup my Mac using time machine and the back up would only be one folder for each back up.

Then I noticed it recently started creating a series of folders for each back up. I thought there was something wrong with the drive and replaced it with a terabyte seagate as I had little space and the insides were loose which caused the disk the eject randomly.

Now, even with my new seagate the backups are not one folder labeled with the date of the back up, there are several folders being created with strange names. Anyone have an idea what’s happening? Thanks!

disk drives only do what the operating system tells them to. it’s not the drive’s fault.

I’m aware there is nothing wrong with the drive. I’m curious if this is a common problem or why it has suddenly changed how it backs up and how to possibly fix it.

Maybe it has to do with a weird wininstall issue I’ve been having regarding boot camp?
