Seahawks v Washington: why wasn't that an interception?

Watching the game in a bar, and not familiar with NFL rules.

Washington QB passes. It’s tipped just a little by a Seahawks defenceman.

Washington guy catches the ball, bobbles it, and it shoots up in the air.

Seahawks guy catches the ball.

Play ends and the Washingtons get the ball for fourth down.

Why wasn’t that an interception? Would have been in the CFL.

I didn’t see the play but most likely the ball hit the ground before someone got control of it. If it happened as you described it that would be an interception in the NFL as well. The only other possibility would have been a penalty on the play.

ETA: Or someone had stepped out of bounds.

No I watched it on replay, thinking I’d missed the grounding. It bounced up from the Washington’s hands and a Seahawks snagged it. Then they lined up with Washington in possession.

When was the play? The NFL Gameday has play-by-play descriptions and we should be able to see what the call on the field was.

Can’t remember - sometime in the 1st Q I think.

I think I found the play - it’s a video highlight on nfl.com. The Seattle player didn’t catch the ball, he dropped it.
