I’m saying that I’m hoping people can get better, add value to their posts in the debate forums, and engage in good faith. I think people in this thread are reachable, and certainly KarlGauss is. I don’t know Tired & Cranky very well.
I’m sure you don’t care what I think, but I think your general posting style is off-topic and inflammatory, more about the tone of the post and the reaction of posters than the subject itself. I think meta posts are usually not helpful. However, you and I engaged at least once or twice productively, and I appreciated that at the time.
If people actually debate the topic than I’m perfectly fine with that. When people start attacking the person is when I have a problem with the tactic. Far too often false motives are assigned to the poster when the motive of the poster is, in fact, completely irrelevant. Either the the post makes sense or it does not.
There actually shouldn’t be any place for personal attacks on a forum that has any pretense of providing a place to debate contentious topics. Disguising a personal attack as an attack of the post is also transparently disingenuous as well even if it’s explicitly allowed except for the most egregious cases.
I think Trump and Palin are wrong on many, many issues. Does that need to be rehashed in every thread? There are already 41912^441^9041298012 threads on Trump. Does every thread need to be hijacked by Trump? Hell Trump hijacks were treated like statist hijacks around here the board would be reduced to at least 1/2 of it’s current population.
