…Groening actually grow up there, many of the character names are taken from streets and locales around Springfield.

Actually, it seems to be more Portland, OR locales for names: Quimby, Flanders, Lovejoy, and Terwilliger are all Portland streets.

Springfield OR isn’t a port town but its not far from the ocean. On the other hand you can’t pump your own gas in Oregon either.
