Yeah. The way Google works is that a site crawler will navigate the site and index all the content that it can get to.
But I’d be willing to bet that a crawler hasn’t indexed the Discourse version of the SDMB yet, so currently any search result URLs probably point somewhere that doesn’t actually exist anymore in terms of the way they’re formatted, etc…
As far as the board search functionality, it seems to work fine- better even in some ways (there are more options).
My last post wasn’t very clear. The board search is now showing two results for “1917” in the thread title in Cafe Society, one of which is relevant to me.
The first result is from April 2020. The other is from December 2002. I know there are other threads from the time the movie was released in December 2019, but they’re not coming up at this time.
If there’s some indexing operation that still needs to run for the new board, hopefully this improves, because right now I still can’t find the threads I’m looking for—not with the board search (missing results) or Google search (get results but links do not work).
Yeah I can see a lot of search results missing, I just kicked off a full re-index but this is going to take a few hours to run. There are millions of posts here.
The board search function seems to be working much better now. I am now able to find all of the threads I was looking for.
The Google links still aren’t working, though. Hopefully this will work itself out soon, because I suspect that Google searches are the main way we get new members.
