So I’ve been rabidly renting every episode of the TV show Alias from Netflix…its really, really entertaining. I’ve come to the end of season 4 (great ending) and I’m ready to begin 5. Since they won’t be released on DVD for a while I compromised and read the episode summaries for the shows I missed and eagerly tuned in to ABC at 8pm last night to find…nothing. No show, nothing even scheduled. WTF? Am I missing something? Did they pull the plug on the last season early? If so they better watch out. If other fans are as enamored with the show as I am there may well be a revolution.
Does anyone know when they plan to show the rest of the season, if at all? Thanks!
I hear it’s coming back to finish up in the spring sometime. They claim they’re doing a huge finale, since they’ve officially been cancelled. But really, you’re not missing much. Season five has absolutely blown chunks. I’ll summarize if you’re interested:
Sydney is pregnant, of course. They killed off Vaughn in the first or second episode, then his friend - I forget his name - the dark haired guy that was in love with Syd’s sister - quit to go to another job. The show is mainly focusing on two other new agents that have been recruited, with Syd mainly hanging around in the background gestating. Well, it’s maybe not that bad, but it’s close. Sloan is still evil, Marshall is still stuttering, Syd’s dad is still stiff, etc, etc. They’ve invented yet another evil conspiracy that’s trying to rule the world from the shadows. Oh, and Syd’s sister (why can’t I remember her name??) is in a coma (rolleyes smiley here) to provide mysterious evil people with leverage over Sloan. And in the last episode aired so far, we learn that the current shadowy figure running the evil show is none other than…dun dun DUUUUUNNN…Sydney’s mom.
Cool, thanks guys. Hopefully they make an announcement soon about the start date. Strange that they would shelve it mid-season like that. Is that normal behavior for prime time shows these days?
Production shut down for a while because of Jennifer Garner’s pregnancy.
I read today in a Washington Post chat with their TV reporter that ABC had not scheduled a return date yet. If the network thinks the finale is sweeps worthy, look for it to return late March or early April, depending on how many episodes are left.
I disagree. It hasn’t been as good as earlier seasons and I think it’s time for the show to end while it’s still on an uptick but it’s still more enjoyable than most everything else that’s on. I think a lot of people were turned off by Vaughn’s death and with the exception of using her as a vehicle for getting Patrick Bauchau on for a couple of guest shots Renee, the French chick Vaughn had been hanging with has been largely a waste of time. But I’ve really enjoyed the introduction this season of Rachel and Grace. I like both characters a lot and wish they’d get their own spin-off. And anything that gets Amy Acker on TV definitely gets my approval. And how can ya hate the return of Lena Olin? Except actually, I do kinda hate it because Irina went out so beautifully at the end of S4. A very natural exit for the character and I worry that the return is going to come off as overly forced.
The dark-haired guy is named Eric Weiss. Sydney’s sister is named Nadia.
IMDB indicates that the next two episodes are slated to air March 2, next Thursday. I hope IMDB knows better than the Post because the last ep was so damn good I’ve been hankering for the next one.
This doesn’t show up on the ABC website yet, but The Futon Critic quotes an ABC press release sayingThe Emmy Award-winning spy drama, “Alias,” returns to the ABC primetime schedule with a two-hour event on Wednesday, April 19 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), and will air in its regular time period thereafter on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET)
