Locally grown peaches say “summer” to me even more than locally grown tomatoes.
September is when the best apples in the universe [IMO] appear in the markets from the Eastern Panhandle. Apples that are picked in the AM and in the markets that afternoon…omnomnom.
They’re just as tasty at any time of year, but you can usually only buy cranberries for a couple months. Luckily, they freeze very well.
I’ve got 8 bags in my freezer. Plus I’m considering getting more, since my store has them on sale at half price.
