Seattle dopers -
We’re still getting settled and calling Clyde Hill in Bellevue home. I’ve got the in-laws from China and an English friend from Hong Kong in town for dinner Saturday night (tomorrow).
Looking for a Seattle-ish restaurant, preferrably with seafood, for a classy Seattle dining experience. No, we don’t want to eat at the Space Needle nor McCormick and Schmicks.
One recommendation was for Ray’s Boathouse in Ballard. It looks nice, but a little bit on the pricey side. Not out of the question but hoping for something maybe along those lines but a bit cheaper. Ray’s is my backup plan.
How would dopers stack rank Anthony’s versus Ray’s? Both are right near each other by the Ballard Locks?
Help a soggy Doper out! Thanks!
I don’t think Ray’s is what it used to be. My last couple of visits were only very good, not great.
I would consider:
Flying Fish
Etta’s
Blueacre
The Walrus and the Carpenter
Anchovies and Olives
Seastar
Ray’s Cafe (I think I like the less formal upstairs more than the downstairs these days)
I had lunch with a friend on Monday at Fishermans Restaurant on Pier 57. I had mahi mahi, and she had swordfish. The mahi mahi was tasty, but the swordfish was better. Good view of the water (as is to be expected, since it’s at the end of the pier).
‘Classy’? That might be a problem. You have to go through a game arcade to get there.
Just posting as a data point. I don’t do ‘sit down’ dining in Seattle often enough to recommend a place.
Sorry to be late, but for future dining excursions: have you checked out Tilth? We loved it so much we used to plan weekends trips from Vancouver (Canada, not the other one in Washington) just to go. Organic and local ingredients, awesome staff, cool local cheeses, great desserts. Definitely not in the downtown area, but also not full of tourists. Worth checking out some time, anyway.
So where did you end up going?
