Secret ban--Carl Hiaasen unavailable

I didn’t see link

From his post (The link after Squeeze Me appears to go to the book’s page on the St. Louis Public Library web site):

Edit: I just googled “St. Louis Public Library,” followed the first link in the result, put “Squeeze Me” in the search box on their home page, and found the same information that @Max_S did (i.e., 22 physical copies available for checkout). Is that the page for your library system?

A check of the Kansas City library finds nearly all of his books are available to borrowers (“Squeeze Me” is listed as unavailable, all copies checked out but a downloadable e-book is accessible).

Lots of Hiaasen titles available for checkout at the Library of the Ozarks in Branson, MO.

It’d be an odd sort of ban that’s only confined to St. Louis and St. Louis County.

Right, that’s what I was referring to, too. Looks like copies are available this moment at many branches. I can’t go farther because I don’t have a library account there.

Pending the OP’s return to their thread, I suspect we have one of two situations:

  1. They are looking at different “St. Louis Public Library” websites than the rest of us are.
  2. Spelling errors on the author’s last name while doing a search led the OP to believe that their library did not carry Hiassen’s books.

Might be simpler for them to search by title.

OMG, spelling error on my part, too. Hiaasen.

I just googled.
He has had a book banned in schools.
Oddly named Wrecker.

This guy may be my new favorite author.

 He should be! Carl Hiassen is awesome. Check him out (literally and/or figuratively).

The recent TV series of Bad Monkey was great fun. Vince Vaughan was born to be a Carl Hiaasen character. The rest of the cast are excellent, particularly Jodie Turner-Smith as Dragon Queen. And of course, being a Hiaasen story it races along with plenty to laugh at along the way.

he writes really good kid books, they young 'uns may like that…

Moderating: This basically doesn’t feel right, PMing the poster with the info is one thing, but posting it in thread seems like too much. Not quite Doxing of course, but close, more of a call to action, but barely. But not something to be encouraged for sure.

I’ll remove the contact information.

I’ve read some Carl Hiaasen. I know I’ve read Bad Monkey, and I’m pretty sure one or two other of his books. Thanks to this thread, I just went on my online library site and put an e-book copy of ‘Squeeze Me’ on hold (0 of 1 copies available).

Purple-but-leaning-MAGA Mesa, AZ’s, public library (not MAGA) has tons of Hiassan, Hiaassen, uh, Carl’s books. Including Squeeze Me in conventional book, e-book, books for the blind, large print, and CD.

Perhaps the OP could post the link he’s using that shows no copies.

okay, sorry. It’s just public info anyone can easily find - but I know that argument doesn’t fly, so I’ll be more circumspect in the future.

Don’t know how I missed this thread. If I hadn’t missed it, I could have found in less than 30 seconds that St. Louis’ public library has 40 results for Hiaasen’s books in various formats.

Go for it, Beck. The books are easy, entertaining and educational reads. I have a feeling that you would like his sense of humor.

Try to do them in release date order - there are characters who recur and long-term running gags to find.

don’t forget to read Tim Dorsey too
