It’s polite to let people know when a link goes directly to a video or sound file. Especially when it’s such an *old *link.
Well… I don’t disagree, it’s certainly more polite to tell people what you’re providing a link to. However, it’s not one of our Forum Rules nor is it mentioned in FAQ - Guidelines and Etiquette There’s no surprise pop-up jack-in-the-box here, i’s not a link to anything illegal or immoral, so the absence of a descriptor is not anything I’m gonna worry about.
If y’all think we should add this to the Etiquette list, then please start a thread in ATMB and let’s see what folks think.
Heck, no, don’t add this to the etiquette list. As lissener said, ordinary politeness should be enough to enforce a simple, obvious courtesy like this one. And Heaven knows that an OP’s lack of any content other than a link has sunk enough OPs to provide a warning to even the most casual reader of the SDMB, much less…well, a more informed observer. Neither the forum rules nor the provided FAQ spell out everything a member should do, and it’s a damned good thing they don’t. Let us rely instead on the good sense of our members and moderators, except maybe just not when they’re judging themselves.
