In Star Trek The Next Generation, if you were given a chance to do the holodeck simulation, you could instead hold in the launch trigger and press the right flipper button. This would start Riker’s lower decks poker game. You played one hand of poker against Riker for bonus points.
Also, if you lost a ball through a side drain, often Data would tell you “If you had propelled the ball at the proper trajectory, you would have been rewarded.” However if you hit a flipper at any point of Data’s spiel, Picard would cut him off with an exasperated “Thank you, Mr. Data!” and you’d get 10k.
