Section 8 + Sequestration = ???

Is there any website that will give me **detail **info on how Sec 8 will be affected by sequestration? Does anyone here know? All I’m finding is vague info about cuts.
My mother lives in a senior building and Sec 8 pays most of her rent and I liked to find out the facts before she panics (and she will). If it matters, she lives in Los Angeles County, just east of Pasadena.

Thank You

PS: Senior communities are great rumor mills and centers of sexual activity.

You’ll want to contact the local housing authority, since the program is administered by states. Here’s an article talking about Glendale, CA’s decision to supplement the shortfall from city funds.

I used to deal with Sec 8 from a landlord’s perspective when I managed apartments in Washington state. The policy there (and I think elsewhere) is that Sec 8 provides a fixed benefit in terms of housing, so the costs of the program are controlled by the number of people put onto the program. When budget crunches almost 10 years ago came around, the state responded by allowing fewer people onto the program (with a very long waiting list if you were a new applicant), but not by kicking current recipients off the lists. This seems to match the approach that Glendale is taking now, so I’d suspect that it will be a common response throughout the US.

I know that’s a little short on details that will fit your mother precisely, but perhaps it will help a little. If you want details, I think you’ll have to contact the housing authority that covers your mother.

Thank you for that link.
