Security of top military and political figures?

So many individuals, either military or political have intelligence knowledge that"they cannot tell the press" much less we the public.

Who protects these individuals from being kidnapped and tapped for information. Even Congressman Condit was reappointed back to the Intelligence committee.

Many yrs ago, as Capt. in the US Medical Corps there sas the need to know in effect so I was never told any intelligence matters that did not apply to anything outside of the practice of medicine…but now even Ari Fleisher, the presidential spokesman apparently is full of top secret info. Who protects him and the rest of the above?

The Secret Service cannot watch everyone correct?

Does Ari Fleischer really know “Top Secret” information or is he just told that there is info on subject matter X that is top secret, so he can’t tell everybody.

I have a feeling that the members of Congress who are on the House/Senate Select Committees on Intelligence have somebody keeping tabs on them.

My WAG is that there are a million or so people in the US that have fairly high clearences (not just DOD), including me. Very few people know a LOT of different things. Most know a very narrow spectrum of things. I’m sure the people that do know a lot are protected in some way or another and I’m sure that that is classified  . It’s not worth it to kidnap 50 people and “tap” them for info. If somebody kidnapped me they would be pissed because I dont “know” anything other than how to fix broken stuff that just happens to be classified. That is probably the case with a good number of people with clearences. My pointless ramblins stop now.

Interesting topic and good question. I checked a search engine quickly and found this:

I always thought that other than the people with high profiles, those who have very sensitive info. were not allowed to disclose their employer or what they do.

True, there are loads of people with classified info. But I’m mostly curious about those who sit with the President and the Secretary of Defense and others who determine and where, when, and how the enemy will be attacked. Not all of these people are followed everywhere with secret service or military bodyguards or are they?

So far, it looks like it’s up to these individuals to “protect” themselves. See:

Also, I just thought about those high profile spy cases like Hanssen and Ames. I guess if they were being “protected,” maybe they would not have become involved in their alleged (or proven) activities. Good topic that I may revisit.
