The bottom of the OP is not a signature, it’s a clear snark. Can this be moved to the Pit?
If this thread were really about that, there would have been no mention of OWS in the OP.
Yeah, fair enough. Since I don’t hang out in GD or the Pit, I was coming into this without preconceptions about the OP, so took it pretty much at face value.
Moved MPSIMS --> Pit.

Occupy Oakland got at least 5k people together for their big march last week (or maybe it was the week before).
NPR estimates 40,000. Some estimates as high as 100,000.
Yeah… Hate to burst your bubble, but if you can’t tell the difference between a few thousand college kids marching for a couple hours to support a coach and tens of thousands of people of all ages and demographics camping and protesting for over a month, then you really need to figure out what you’re talking about.
No, they don’t. There were less than 2,000 people involved for one night.
It was a wussy riot by PSU standards anyway. Seriously, we’ve had riots in this town based on “It’s Arts Fest, and we’re bored” that were larger than this.
You’re drawing this conclusion from an event involving a population that didn’t even reach 5% of the student body (not even guessing how many locals were involved compared to students)?
—Z, drove through the aftermath on his way to work and didn’t notice, except for the one news van.
No kidding. I was there for a research internship one summer, and I slept through a riot bigger than this one.
Remember that, according to wikipedia, University Park has 44,000 students. You could probably get more than 2,000 to show up to protest something by offering free hot dogs and not even telling them what it was.
As I’ve said on this board before, the biggest riot in my time at Penn State involved a woman who flashed a crowd on (OK, you can laugh) Beaver Avenue, then refused to flash them a second time.
Most of the media reports I’ve heard say that about 2,000 students were in the demonstration, but only a few dozen or so were in the actual riot. For Penn State that’s a “ran out of cheesesteaks at CC Pepper’s” level riot.
Fuck, now I’m goddamn hungry and I don’t have time to drive to north Atherton. Fuck Jimmy John’s anyway.
God, between the child-rape rooms on campus and the frequent rioting, it sounds like an absolute shit hole.
