Seriously, I am in need of a restaurant that fits the following criteria:
[ul][li]Halal (follows Muslim dietary law).[/li][li]Has vegetarian entrees.[/li]
[li]And not just the ones where the chef yanks the meat out of the stuff he’s already making; I mean REAL vegetarian entrees.[/li][li]And for the purists (vegans) amongst us: I don’t mean it must be a vegan place, I mean ovo-lacto-vegetarian; however, vegan is cool.
[/li][li]On the Monterey Peninsula in California.[/ul][/li]
It’s even okay if the place accidentally fits into this list, so long as it fits.
If you recommend a place, my friend (the Muslim) and I (the vegetarian) dine there, and it’s good food, then you’ll get e-mail cards from me next Ramadan (unless you don’t want that).
Try asking at a mosque in the area. They would probably know if there were any places that fit your requirements.
Some friends of mine and I wanted good Greek food after visiting a Greek Orthodox church in Chicago, so we asked the parishoners where to go and so had one of the best meals of our lives.
Our local mosque has its own restaurant/café, that caters for vegetarians too (the food is fantastic). Of course it’s in Dublin not the Monterey peninsula, but it might be an idea to call a few mosques.
The local mosque used to be in my old neighbourhood and has closed. The other option is a prayer group on base; however, I have checked with them and they’re all in this country on temporary duty from their military. Consequently, they cook their own food.
I shall continue to search, though, and appreciate your assistance!
