Seeking advice on buying from online prescription eyeglasses shops

I will need to replace eyeglasses soon and I’ve heard online eyeglasses shops can be quite cheaper.

During an eye exam, what information must be demanded of the optometrist to allow one to order online?

I have successfully ordered more than 10 pairs of glasses on-line. The prices I paid ranged from $9 to $40 depending on the style. Other than the actual prescriptions for each eye, you need the PD (pupilary distance). Good luck!

The GlassyEyes blog has a ton of information for you.

Thanks to the reminder from this thread, I just placed my very first order for online glasses! I figured this was the perfect time for it, since I had just gotten my eyes checked and have new glasses from the optometrist, so if the online ones don’t work out, no big deal. I really hope they do, though - $50 is a helluva lot better than $500.

ETA: In case you are in Canada, OP, here’s a Canadian site so you can see the real prices and not get to the end of the ordering process and find out they don’t ship to Canada. Clearly Contacts.
