Seeking advice on starting a blog.

Oh, sorry! That anonymous user was me. I’m so used to being logged in when I write posts. I’ll update, sorry.

And I think the way it works is if I friend you, then you can see all my friends only posts, but I can’t see yours if you don’t friend me. and you don’t have to friend me back!

Make sure your friends/linkees are aware of how much attention you want. One of my e-friends (very non-maliciously) sent my blog url to a pretty famous blog and it was featured which upped my hit count enormously-far beyond what I was comfortable with. I was really just writing the blog for my friends…and I picked up some bloggy friends along the way. I have a job and was not looking to be the next Amalah.

Anyway, even though it killed me, I deleted the blog. I figure I’m a fountain of brilliance so I’ll be up and running with a new blog at some point but it really hurt to delete all my entries and the comments attached to them.

Nice. I added you as a friend.

That’s cool, Anaamika – of course I’ll friend you.

And thanks for the advice, anu-la1979. That’s pretty much the sort of thing I’ve been concerned about.

Yeah, dude, it blew. On one hand I was really flattered, first that my “friend” (who actually used to write a pretty famous blog and is an amazing writer himself) sent it on, and second that I merited a special “featured blog” post at the blog he sent my link to. However, I really didn’t want people figuring out stuff about me and while writing it was very special to me, other stuff matters a whole lot more.

I made a lot of friends while blogging and I was getting linked to quite a few places (per my techorati profile) but it just wasn’t the same as seeing how many people clicked on it and some of the negative comments left about me on the other site that featured my blog.

Believe me, it really killed me to press the delete button. You think it’s just a dumb blog but it really hurts to destroy your own material.

“friend” as in I’ve never met him in person (yet), not that I consider him a bad friend or anything.
