The Rancid Family will be hosting thier first ever fall party in one week, and I am seeking advice from you Dopers because I know you all can party like rock stars.
We are going to have about 20-30 people over, and we plan on providing the main dishes, as well as most of the beverages. We have horeshoes, darts, and billiards available for games or tournaments. My band is considering playing that night, depending upon the weather and schedules.
We are looking for ideas to put this party over the top. All ideas are welcome, large or small. Food and drink suggestions, entertainment suggestions, games, party favours, anything you can think of. We want it to be memorable for our guests.
The party starts at 5 p.m. and kids have been banned from the premises. If it doesn’t rain, most of the action will be outside. I’m sure there will be plenty of inside action as well.
I wouldn’t perform. You’ll be swapping between “performer” mode and “host” mode and it’ll cause both roles to suffer. Invite some other band you know to perform.
Post directions to your house. Those of us who can “party like rock stars” are sure to make it an event to remember. The police will be talking about it for years afterwards! “Oh, yeah, rookie, there was this one time we were called to the Rancid place; there were farm animals, baloons full of vegetable oil, midgets, and more shoehorns than you can shake a stick at. I haven’t been the same since.”
If you’re going to have tournaments, make sure you’ve got a clear idea of the rules beforehand (how organized do you want them to be? who’s going to judge if there’s judging involved? when does each tournament begin?). Also - prizes are important! Either really cool or really tacky.
Decency, as well as specific conditions of probation, prohibit me from giving detailed information. However, I suppose if it were to slip out that metal shoehorns work better than the plastic variety, then I suppose society would be served.
If it’s like here, and you have nice crisp cold evenings by now, I’d say offer mulled cider & mulled wine (keep hot on a very low burner or in a crockpot on warm).
Anything stuffed into an individual pumpkin is fun & fall like.
Make lots of jack o’ lanterns. Light them with something safer than a candle if you all plan on getting tipsy.
Bob for apples if the night is warm enough & you have willing guests. Or do the apple-on-a-string game or pass-the-apple game & get couples (or wanna-be couples) to compete against each other.
How about a scavenger hunt? You can do it early-ish in the evening so that you won’t be sending drunken people wandering around your neighborhood, but it could be a lot of fun!
Fall is well under way here in Ohio. I like the mulled cider idea, don’t know how to make mulled wine, so bring on the recipes for that and anything else that you have.
If you got the bonfire, you need hot dogs and marshmallows to roast.
And if you have some way to suspend it over the fire, it’s a great way to keep the cider warm. It’s been unseasonably hot here in Michigan up until this past weekend. Now I’m suddenly in the mood for hot spiced cider.
