By which, have you ever seen anything that just kinda made you go "huh? Something not quite kosher in a relationship, at work, at home?
Me, I was driving home from a friend’s house late at night when, at a light, a guy walked up to my car and asked me if I wanted to buy some carpentry tools? I politely said “No” and drove away, locking the doors and checking my mirror. Still got no idea what that was about.
I had a Mustang with a dent in the door. A guy pulled up to me and asked if I wanted him to “find” me a new door, said he’d seen other cars like mine around the neighborhood. He was offering to steal a door from one of my neighbors.
I instantly knew my own car was not safe from him either.
A few months ago, Mrs. Urquhart and I were driving down the Interstate and passed a black SUV with tinted windows.
I describe it as a black SUV with tinted windows because that’s absolutely everything I know about it. Every single form of identifying mark was missing: no license plates, no badges of make and model – everything was missing, and because of the tinted windows, there may as well have been a baboon driving for all we could tell.
What’s really weird is that both Mrs. Urquhart and I can tell an Explorer from a 4Runner from a Bronco from a Trailblazer from a Canyonero, and neither of us could tell what kind of SUV it was: it was almost as if it had had body work done to disguise it.
We called the state patrol and let them know that a vehicle with no plates and no other identifying marks was on the Interstate, as well as the nearest mile marker. The state patrol representative seemed not nearly as interested as we.
I often work until about 12:30 AM. At that time, the only place open for food is Jack In The Box. One night, as I’m pulling toward the drive-thru, I see, standing next to the “order here” microphone, next to a line of 3 or 4 cars, a guy casually swinging a baseball bat in a vertical circle. Not actively performing violence, just swinging a bat. Nonetheless, I made my own dinner that night.
A few years ago I was walking the dog in a pine plantation near town about 10:30 am on a weekday. Its a pretty big area with forestry roads and clearings all through it.
I came around a corner to see two cars driving along a trail together about 300m ahead (which was strange enough as that far into the plantation the only vehicles you tend to see are ranger trucks). One was a gold coloured sports car and the other a sedan. They turned off the trail and drove up a very rock side-track under some power lines.
One guy got out of each car, both walked into the trees and about 30 seconds later came back out, got in their cars and drove off in different directions. :dubious:
